Barrie, Ont. September 8, 2013. Jason White battled vehicle trouble in an admirable effort to finish the marathon Hudco Electric Supply 300 on Sunday.
Jason White’s Bowers & Wilkins Dodge felt good in practice on Saturday, and the crew only found fine-tuning necessary to improve the set up. Unfortunately for the drivers, rain postponed qualifying and the race until Sunday.
Luckily, Sunday was all clear skies and qualifying was able to proceed on time. Despite the confidence in his vehicle the day prior, the driver of the #21 Dodge qualified 16th.
“It was a tough qualifying,” White explained. “We had an early spot and the track was really green after all of the rain.”
When the race finally kicked off Sunday afternoon, White quickly settled into the race and opted to postpone pit stops in order to improve track position.
Midway through the contest, White felt the car wasn’t performing as it should. He felt off pace and decided to have the crew inspect the vehicle during a stop. The crew discovered the Bowers & Wilkins Dodge had dropped a cylinder.
The team forged through with the remaining laps regardless of the mechanical issue. White eventually finished 13th, improving three spots from his start.
“It’s tough when you have a day like that,” White said later. “The car was getting beter, the guys were working hard to make adjustments. We were going the right way but then all we could do it was coax it to the finish.”
After Sunday’s race, White is ranked seventh in the season standings with 343 points. The team looks forward to the next race in Kawartha.
