Sophomore Ltd. Late Model pilot Nick Goetz has confirmed he will make his first career Barrie Speedway start on September 22nd, at the tri-oval’s lauded Garry Reynolds Memorial. Barrie’s tight confines have earned it a menacing reputation amongst out-of-towners, though Goetz isn’t worried.
“I know space is a premium at Barrie, but I’ve never been one to shy away from a little fender banging”, explained Goetz during a recent test and tune. “I started my career at Sauble, it’s just as tight as Barrie. These smaller tracks can teach you a lot about car control and utilizing every inch of the speedway”
The Saugeen Shores, ON driver has made a habit of soaking up information wherever he can through his sophomore season, with the bulk of advice coming from driver coach and mentor, Jason Hathaway.
“Jason has been instrumental in so much of my success this Summer. He won the most recent NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event at Barrie, so he’s given me quite a few pointers that I’m sure will come in handy on race day”
The 100-lap event has already attracted the interest of Ltd. Late Model stars from across the province, including 2-time defending race winner Mike Bentley, reigning Barrie Speedway champion Gord Shepherd and multi-time Peterborough Speedway titlist Kelly Balson.
“I’m excited to see this caliber of drivers come out for an event like this”, beamed Goetz. “I’m used to racing against some of the best drivers in the province at Sunset on a weekly basis – the big names don’t intimidate me, they motivate me”
