SOUTHAMPTON, ON- After having spent the first half of the season racing close to 3-hours away from home, Nick Goetz is eager to put on a show for friends and family when he returns to Sauble Speedway this weekend.
“I can’t wait to be back at Sauble”, beams Goetz when asked about the opening round of the Sunset Speedway vs. Sauble Speedway ‘Home and Home Series’ on July 12th.
“We’re considered a Sunset hometrack car now, but it’ll be nice to come back to Sauble and race in front of my friends and family. I got my start at Sauble, so it’s always pretty special to be able to come back and race with the same guys I did in my rookie season”
“It feels like a home game”, adds the former OHL Goalie with a smile.
The third-year competitor started his season off with a frustrating run of mechanical breakdowns and on-track incidents, but as of late has impressed with a string of impressive runs – including a victory at Peterborough’s ‘Chase for the Colours’ on June 29th.
“Getting our first win was such a huge moment for this team”, explains Goetz. “We were starting to get down on ourselves after our run of bad luck. Pulling off the win at Peterborough was like a jolt of energy for us”
“We debuted this car in the Spring, hoping to become a contender by the end of the season”, continues Goetz. “I know that I still have a lot to learn, but I feel as though we’re well on our way to being able to race for wins every time out of the trailer”
For Goetz, a strong performance at Sauble would cement his status as a driver to keep an eye on.
“There’s definitely some added motivation this weekend. Racing in front of some of the people in my life that don’t get the chance to come all the way down to Sunset is huge. I just want to put on a show. We haven’t really had a chance to showcase what this new chassis can do at Sauble, and I’m hoping July 12th will give us that opportunity to do so”
