August 13, 2013- Ryan Litt’s season started off with the biggest victory of his career. This weekend the 26-year old welder from Lyons, Ontario will set his sights on claiming home track glory in the ISMA Super Modified 75 at Delaware Speedway.
Back in March, Litt earned a major victory at an event in Florida in his sprint car. The race featured a number of Indycar and Nationwide Series drivers, part of the Must-See-Racing Series in the USA. Litt has run just four races with the World’s Most Powerful Short Track Cars on the International Super Modified Associaion (ISMA) circuit this year with a pair of races in Quebec driving for Brad Lichy where he earned a top-five finish and more recently at Sandusky Speedway he drove for Dave Lair.
“In Sandusky we had the new car blues but showed signs of being quick,” explained Litt. “Dave built the car in 2009 and it’s only raced 3-4 times since then. It’s basically a brand new car.”
Litt, who is still the all-time track record holder at Delaware Speedway, is exceptionally optimistic heading into the weekend following recent testing at Delaware and may just have the car to beat:
“We were surprised how quick we ran, down to the low sixteen seconds on two-year-old tires. We’re excited to head back, put the same setup in, and with some new tires and be right in the ballpark.”
“There’s nothing better than racing close to home,” added Litt. “I race in the States full time so it’s great for family and friends to come out. It’s one of the bigger races of the year for us.”
Other Canadian drivers in the field are expected to include Mark Sammut (#78) of London, Dave McKnight of Glencoe, and Mike Lichty (#84) of Brantford who was denied a home track win on the final corner of the final lap last year when Tim Jedrzejek of Independence, Ohio passed him for the victory. Lichty, however, would go on to do Canada proud and lay claim the overall Championship in the series.
This year’s 75-lap race is the longest distance the Super Modifieds have run at Delaware in recent memory. Litt welcomes the longer event:
“I like the longer races better,” he explained. It gives you a chance to sort through the field and not rush your passes. If you’ve got a good car you can slowly make your way to the front. All of this unless, of course, you’re leading. Then you want it done as quickly as possible!”
About the Super Modifieds:
If there ever was a short track car built for speed, it’s a Super Modified. Easily visible by their distinctive wings (which move depending on whether the car is cornering or on a straightaway) and aerodynamic package, their engines pound out over 800 horsepower. Combine that with an ultra light 1850 lb weight and gigantic tires for added grip. Add it all together and you have a recipe for extreme speed.
Tickets and Track Information:
Tickets for the event are available through the track website or at the gate the day of the event. The track has made special family value passes available for the event, which allow up to two kids age 16 and under to enter free with an adult. Camping for the weekend is available on a first-come-first-served basis behind the back stretch for $20 for the weekend.
