PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO- Gary Lindberg from Ridgeway, Ontario scored his third victory of the season in the Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman while Paul Grigsby from Springville, NY held off Jorden Peters to win the Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Model feature.
Kevin Knapp from Thorold, Ontario ended James Thompson’s two win race streak in the J.C. Auto Street Stocks. Evan Curtis from Port Colborne, Ontario went three wide with a handful of laps remaining to grab his third win of the season in the Trackside Decal Mini Stocks. Greg Haegens from Fenwick, Ontario won his first Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Truck feature of the season while Olivier Larocque from Port Colborne, Ontario won his first Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stock feature of the season.
Lee Hills from Dundas, Ontario fended off 25 other competitors to win the Eve of Destruction Enduro Qualifier. Hills is now qualified for the Eve of Destruction Enduro scheduled for September 22nd.
Brad Rouse and Greg Panunte were on the front row for the Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman and it was Rouse leading the parade for the opening circuit. Panunte went to the cushion to drive right on by Rouse on lap three with Gary Lindberg getting on by Adam Leslie for third and by Rouse for second on lap five.
The race’s first caution came out on lap five for Chris Bellamy after Bellamy spun in turn one. On the restart it was Panunte and Lindberg on the front row and the yellow lights came back on just one lap later after Dan Miller, Gord McIntosh, Austin Wood and Consolation winner Brian Schmidt came together in turn one.
All were able to rejoin the field. The restart saw Panunte pull away from Lindberg with Rouse, Adam Leslie and Darrell Farraway in the top five with defending divisional champion Cody McPherson right there as well. The caution came back out for the third time on lap 12 after Travis Miller came to a stop on the front stretch. The restart saw Panunte pull away from Lindberg, the winner of the previous two Sportsman feature in 2013 went to the outside of turn two and passed Panunte for the race lead at the races halfway mark.
Once in front of the field, Lindberg quickly pulled away from Panunte and Rouse with Farraway and McPherson running inside the top five. Cody McPherson passed Farraway for fourth place in the late going but that would be as far as the 2012 Champ would get.
Gary Lindberg would go on to win his third of the season. Panunte, Rouse, McPherson and Farraway completed the top five.
“I used the cushion and used the slide job and got on by Greg” said Lindberg in victory lane.
Bill Holmes and Dean Ferri led the field of Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Models to John Veach’s double green flags for their 20 lap feature event with Ferri leading the way. Ferri lost the handle all on his own in turn two and did a complete 360 on lap eight and lost the lead to Holmes with Paul Grigsby, Zack Carley and Jorden Peters all able to get on by Ferri.
The yellow lights came on for the first time on lap 10 as Ferri spun in turn one and collected Tim Gillespie and Rob Ledingham. The halfway mark restart saw Paul Grigsby take the lead away from Holmes just as Zack Carley came to a stop in turn two. Grigsby pulled away from the field but yellow fever was happening as Ledingham lost the handle of his Cosco Haulage machine in turn one to bring out the caution. The restart with six laps remaining saw the Western New York pilots of Grigsby and Bill Holmes pull away from Peters but Peters passed Holmes to take over second. The yellow lights would be bright once again on lap 17 as Rob Pietz would spin in turn one.
Peters would go to work on Grigsby off the restart but Jorden Peters couldn’t pass Grigsby as Paul Grigsby would get his first Humberstone victory of 2013.
Jim Lampman and Ryan Turner led the field of JC Auto Street Stocks to the green flag for their 20 lap feature event with Turner getting the early race lead. Paul Reichel went up in smoke on the front stretch to bring up the first caution of the night on lap two. The restart saw the Turner boys of Ryan and Cory lead the stout field of Street Stock back to the green flag with Ryan showing the way. Cory got loose and gave the opening needed for James Thompson and Jason Fontaine as they both were able to get around Cory Turner to take over second and third place.
The lap four restart saw Thompson and Fontaine on the front row with Thompson showing the way. Kevin Knapp passed Ryan Turner to take over third and went three wide for the lead and Fontaine made contact with Thompson and Fontaine went to the pits after the yellow lights went on. The restart saw Knapp pull away from Thompson as Lee Winger and Alex Morris battled for third place with Winger passing Morris.
Thompson reeled himself back in and went side by side with Knapp and went three wide with lap car Doug Crawford and Knapp was able to keep the lead. Cory Turner made his way back up through the field and passed Winger for third with five laps remaining and began his quest of getting to the race leaders.

Greg and Garnet Wilson led the field of Trackside Decals Mini Stocks to the green flag with Garnet taking the lead with Tyler Lafantaisie challenging Garnet for the lead on the opening circuit. Lafantaisie went underneath Wilson for the race lead but Wilson was able to keep the lead.
The first caution of the event came out on lap seven as Katie Cosco spun in turn four and landed in the ditch. On the restart it was Lafantaisie getting the jump on the outside of the track but Evan Cutis made it three wide and was able to get the lead on lap ten. Curtis pulled away from Lafantaisie and Kyle Pelrine and was able to grab his third win of the season.
Adam Nicholls and Sam Pennacchio led the field of Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks to the green flag with the rookie competitor Pennacchio getting the early race lead. Craig Vlasic spun in turn two to bring out the first caution of the event on lap three. Pennacchio lost the handle of his truck in turn two off the restart and rolled his truck on his side. Pennacchio climbed out of his truck under his own power.
The restart saw Greg Haegens and Adam Nicholls on the front row and the field went side by side in parade formation for the whole lap. Andy Imbeault rolled his truck over on the front straightaway. The 37 year veteran Imbeault climbed out of his truck under his own power. Taylor Vanderzanden went three wide to take over the race lead on the restart. Greg Haegens continued to work on Mike Toovey for second and Haegens went three wide with Toovey and Vanderzanden and Haegens took over the lead on lap eight. Haegens pulled away from Vanderzanden and Mike Toovey to pick up his first win of the season.
Roy Crawford and Olivier Larocque led the field of Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stocks to the green flag for their 15 lap feature event with Larocque leading the way. Two time feature winner Sam Iftody was on the move went underneath Crawford to take over second on lap four. Divisional points leader coming into the evening , Kyle Tomaski went underneath Brad Smith to take over fourth at the races halfway mark. Meanwhile, Iftody went to work on race leader Larocque as Iftody went to the bottom of the track but Larocque used the cushion and kept the race lead.
The first yellow came out on lap 11 as Chris Anderson spun in turn one and on the restart, Iftody went to the bottom of the track but once again, Larocque was able to keep the lead. The yellow lights came on again just two laps later on lap 13 after Brad Alward and Brad Booker got together in turn two. Booker was able to continue meanwhile Alward needed the assistance of the CAA tow trucks. The restart saw the green white checkered but Larocque was able to hold off Iftody to pick up the win. “I got a little nervous the last couple of laps but was able to hold off Sam (Iftody) and got the win” said Larocque in victory lane.
PIT NOTES: 25 Sportsman, 12 Late Models, 20 Street Stocks, 15 Mini Stocks, 10 Pro 4 Trucks, 11 Pure Stocks and 25 Enduro cars signed in pitside for a total of 118 cars on hand. The final checkered flag of the regular racing program fell at 9:25pm. When Eve of Destruction Enduro qualifier winner Lee Hills crossed the line, the checkered flag flew at 9:45pm.
Racing returns next Sunday when St. Catharines Truck and Trailer present Autograph Night. On the racing card will be the DIRTcar Modifieds, Sportsman, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks and Pure Stocks. The Mini Stocks will have the evening off. Racing will start promptly at 6:00pm with both the Pits and Grandstand gates opening at 4:00pm.
