Trois-Rivières, August 6th, 2013 – Motorsports fans in Trois-Rivières are getting ready to attend the biggest event of the year this weekend, the 44th edition of Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. The Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) presented by Continental Tire is proud to announce that it will be featured again this year in the Friday night race with full headlights on.
It has become a tradition now for CTCC to be featured on this unique evening. Of course, in order to be able to race at night, one main component is mandatory: headlights! And CTCC’s competitors have what it takes to race at night. With headlights on, Round Nine will be even more spectacular to watch and definitely a challenge for the competitors. With FREE admission on Friday after 5:00 p.m. and several local competitors participating, this is the race you don’t want to miss!
During Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, watch for Scott Nicol (Barrie, Ontario) in his Honda Civic Si from Velocity Motorsports Club. Nicol is leading the Super Class standings with 805 points in front of Josh Fantin (Amhurstberg, Ontario) in his BMW 330i from Amico Racing. In third position with 628 points is Jonathan Rashleigh (Caledon, Ontario) in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe from G1 Racing. New to the championship, Yves Legris (Laval, Québec) will be driving the Scion tC No. 23.
In Touring Class, still unbeatable is Class Champion Damon Sharpe (Tottenham, Ontario) with 866 points in his Honda Civic Si from Blanchet Motorsports. Sharpe is followed by his rival Michel Sallenbach (Roxton Pond, Québec) with 860 points, driving his MINI Cooper JCW from Team Octane and his teammate Eric Lacouture (Lorraine, Québec) in third position with 802 points.
As several drivers experienced engine failures and crashes at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant during Rounds Seven and Eight, Rounds Nine and Ten will be exciting to follow.
Going into the second half of the season, points matter even more and one finishing position can make a huge difference. Two new drivers will experience their first races with CTCC at this amazing venue. From Greenfield Park, Québec, Guy McKenzie will be behind the wheel of the Toyota Corolla No.28 from Media Racing Team. Michael Di Meo from Richmond Hill, Ontario will be driving the Honda Civic Si No. 83 for Blanchet Motorsports.
In B-Spec Class, GP3R will be the third event of the championship. The leader with 465 points is Karl Wittmer (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Québec) driving a Honda Fit for Ste-Rose Honda Racing, followed by veteran Normand Boyer (Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Québec) in his Mazda 2 and Lombardi Honda Racing driver Nigel Heron (Montréal, Québec) in third, also in a Honda Fit. It will be interesting to see how CTCC newcomer Rui Texeira will manage the races on board his Honda Fit No.17.
