INNISFIL, ON- Reigning Ontario Legends series champion Nick Ledson earned a 13th place finish in his first career Late Model appearance, racing alongside some of the top competitors in the province in Sunset Speedway’s 75-lap invitational on July 27th.
“There’s always going to be jitters when you’re jumping into something you’ve never raced before”, explained Ledson post-race, “but I was comfortable in this car. It felt good. We did a lot of side-by-side racing and I learned a tonne”
The Cookstown, ON driver combated an ill-handling car through much of the race’s 75-laps, avoiding a number of early-race incidents in the process.
“We were bad loose at the beginning of the race”, admitted the multi-time Legends winner, “we came down pit road after the second early caution to fix it, but it was still pretty tough to handle”
Despite Ledson’s inexperience in a full bodied stock car, the second-generation star handled himself well, racing alongside a number of veteran competitors in his top-15 bid.
“Any time you’re on the track – no matter what you’re racing – you have to learn to adjust. We had to do a lot of that today. We were good on short runs, and were able to find our groove on the top side of the track”
Ledson’s Legends schedule is expected to occupy the bulk of August, but the 18-year old hopes to return to Late Model competition in the Fall.
“We had an awesome time today, I can’t thank my family, my team and Jason Parker Motorsports for setting this up. Hopefully we can get back for a couple of shows at the end of the season. I’d absolutely love to run the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough, and come back to Sunset for the Velocity weekend in September”
“Everything is up in the air for 2015 as to what we plan on racing and where”, Ledson continued, “but I definitely wouldn’t rule out putting together a fulltime Late Model program at Sunset. I hope to be in one of these cars fulltime sooner than later”
Ledson’s Late Model debut was made possible thanks to the support of Cavalier Transportation Services, Ledson Wines, Cooksville Tire, Edgehill Insurance, Jackson Transportation Services, Motive Media, Peterbilt Region of London/Ayr, Shaw Tracking, TBM Legal Services, Trailcon Leasing and Vitran.
