COOKSTOWN, ON- Following a dominant, headline-grabbing triumph in Peterborough Speedway’s Ontario Legends Series sanctioned $1000-to-win show on August 15th, 2-time champion Nick Ledson will be back in competition with the cross-province tour in a pair of events this weekend at Sunset Speedway.
“Winning $1000 at Peterborough was a huge moment for us,” says Nick. “Any time you get to see your hard work payoff is special. We put a lot of hours into this program, and it’s just about the best feeling in the world to see it all pay off in a performance like that”
Nick’s No. 15 trumped a talent-laden field of over 20-cars for the honour, but is quick to admit that the celebration was short-lived.
“We celebrated on Saturday, but we were right back in the shop on Sunday morning getting ready for this weekend,” offers the top-ranked contender.
With the Ontario Legends Series season winding down, Nick will enter this Saturday and Sunday’s events sitting 2nd in series points behind longtime standout Kevin Foisy.
“With only 3 races left, we can’t afford to slip up in any way,” explains Nick. “So, these cars are getting our utmost attention. Kevin [Foisy] is one of the best in the country behind the wheel of one of these, and we know the only way to climb the mountain and take the points lead from him is hard work and dedication”
“Our entire team wants this championship more than I could ever explain,” continues the former Karting standout. “We know it won’t be easy – but we’re ready to do whatever it takes”
Alongside Nick this weekend will be his 14-year old brother Cole Ledson. Who, after a runner-up finish in his most recent Sunset Speedway appearance on August 8th, is primed for another run towards the front of the field.
“I feel like my night at Sunset two weeks ago was one of my most complete performances in this car,” smiles Cole when asked about his recent efforts.
“We were fast right off the trailer and were able to make the right adjustments to get better as the night went on. If we can build on that this weekend, I think we have a real solid chance at getting back to the front of the field”
Cole entered 2015 with limited experience at Sunset, but has made the most of each of his trips to the Innisfil, ON facility, continuing to improve with each passing show.
“I’m not sure what it is about the place, but it’s definitely brought out the best in me this season,” says Cole.
“I’ve been happy with our Sunset program every time we’ve unloaded there, but we’re constantly working to make it better. As far as location goes, this is the closest we have to a home track, so it would mean the world to me to get my first Legends car win at Sunset.”
