COLDWATER, ON- A 5th place finish in July 4th competition at Sunset Speedway did little more than motivate Ltd. Late Model rookie Jordan Latimer. Despite the career best result, the third-generation driver is quick to note his team’s work is not yet done – as they look to improve upon their result in July 19th action at the Innisfil, ON oval.
“That run was exactly what we’ve been working towards for the last four months,” smiles Latimer – his voice brimming with pride. “It’s not easy to build a team from the ground up. These guys have been committed every step of the way, and man it felt good to put them in the top-5 against some of the best competition in the country”
The teenager has impressed in each of his 4 weeks in the ultra-competitive headline division, after moving up from the Thunder Car ranks at the onset of the 2015 season.
“Racing in a division like this can be pretty humbling some nights,” admits the well-spoken high-school student. “There is no such thing as being ‘a little’ off against this roster. If you aren’t dead-on with your setup – you’re racing deep in the field. It’s that simple”
“Ken [Semkin], Gord [Shepherd] and my Dad have been amazing from the very first day of practice,” continues the fan-favourite. “I’ve lost count of the number of nights we’ve spent going over notes and doing as much homework as we can to try and get this car working better. We knew, as soon as we started putting this car together, that there would be no way to run anywhere close to the front without hours and hours of work”
And though a top-5 finish would be a cause for celebration for most rookies, almost immediately after stepping out of his ride – Latimer was ready to get back to the shop to resume work.
“This is the breakthrough that we’ve been hoping for. The goal, from here, is to not look back,” insists the former Karting standout. “This car was amazing and if we can build on this, I don’t think it’ll be the last time you see us in the top-5”
“We’re excited about our finish, but we know the work isn’t over yet. We’re going to keep working. This is just the start for us.”
Jordan will return to action at Sunset Speedway this Sunday, July 19th. Details for the event, including gate times and ticket prices, can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca.
