With the announcement of who will fly the Team Canada Scholarship colors at the Formula Ford Festival a week away, there is one last chance for the drivers to impress the selection committee and sponsors. Grote Manufacturing and The Drivers Guild of Canada have stepped up again to lead the way in supporting the second year effort to impress the world with the homegrown talent Canada has to offer. Support from Hallman Construction, Lew Mackenzie, Rod-End Mechanical, Bollenbach Insurance, Formula Tour 1600 Series, RBM Inc, Dor Docteur, Simteccom Inc, Harvan Engineering, and Bamford Produce all make it possible for the Team Canada Scholarship to exist.
“While we continue to search for support and build the program we are so thankful to our supporters who make it all possible. The time is getting close for our announcement and it looks to be even tougher than last season.” comments Brian Graham who co-founded the scholarship with Gerry Merz and Dave Matkovich.
The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship competes this coming weekend for the penultimate rounds with candidate Michael Adams leading the championship. Nathan Blok wrapped up his second Formula Tour 1600 title a week ago with two wins and Marc Antoine Cardin had his season high result with a 4th place finish in his rookie year. JP Jodoin enjoyed a podium finish and sits well placed to have a top 3 finish in the championship. Garett Grist is coming off a stellar weekend in the Formula 1600 Championship Series visit to Summit Point with a podium and fastest lap.
USF2000 competitors Dalton Kellett, Scott Hargrove, Matthew DiLeo, and Thomas McGregor all are competing this weekend in the final two rounds at VIR. Hargrove is coming off a strong showing at the INDYCAR Baltimore event with a season best 3rd place finish. DiLeo continued his strong season with a podium and top 5 to solidify his hold on 4th in the Championship. McGregor posted two top ten finishes to build positive momentum after a very tough Road America while Kellett had a rough weekend on his first visit to the Baltimore circuit.
“The selection committee has a tough decision to make given the outstanding quality of our nominated drivers and the results they have been posting this season. I am sure anyone of them would do us proud at Brands Hatch next month but the time has come to select one driver. I am excited to see who we will all be cheering for come October 28th. Can’t wait for next week to learn who our second Team Canada Scholarship winner is” adds co- founder Gerry Merz.
