Pfaff Castrol’s Motorsport team held the lead position over the weekend during the first two races of the 2012 Porsche GT3 Cup Series. Pfaff’s lead driver, Kyle Marcelli got this year’s series off to an exciting start posting record lap times and maintaining lead position throughout both races.
“I’m thrilled with the results the team achieved after the first race weekend,” said Chris Pfaff, President and CEO of Pfaff Automotive Partners. “The car was running perfectly. Kyle handled it extremely well for his first time racing a Porsche and I’m confident the team will continue this momentum throughout the season.”
The team went into Saturday’s race confident having posted the fastest lap time in testing with 1:22.10 and qualifying in first position with 1:21.8. Day one of racing resulted in Marcelli finishing 8 seconds ahead of the group.
After further adjustments to the Cup Car for improved handling, Marcelli finished even stronger on Sunday with an 18 second lead over the second car despite a minor bump with another car. The car ran consistently in the low 1:23 range with a best lap time of 1:22.8.
The Victoria Day Speedfest Weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park drew record crowds of well over 25,000 spectators. The team is looking forward to further improving their results at the Circuit Villeneuve for the F1 Grand Prix weekend in Montreal June 8 to 10.
