Bowmanville, (July 4, 2019) – Kuno Wittmer and McLaren Customer racing team, Compass Racing are looking forward to their home race this Saturday at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). driver Kuno Wittmer is no stranger to the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as this is one of his favorite tracks in the country, “I am thrilled to be back in my home country, in front of the Canadian fans who are always there to support local drivers. 2020 will mark my 20th year of competition at this circuit.”
Compass Racing will be pushing hard for their second season win, in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, which is long overdue as the McLaren 570s GT4 proved to be consistent throughout the first half of the season, but bad luck and unfortunate circumstances have made it hard for McLaren Automotive factory drivers, Wittmer and his teammate Paul Holton.
Last Saturday was the second 4-hour endurance race of the season at Watkins Glen International. The #75 McLaren 570s GT4 showed promising pace as the Montreal, Canada native claimed the third place during qualifying. Staying in the Top 5 during his whole stint, Holton continued what Wittmer had started and kept up with the leaders throughout the first half of the race.
Unfortunately, a competitor hit the McLaren, causing significant damages to the car. Holton had to come back into the pits for extensive repairs. They crossed the finish line in 17th place in the Grand Sport (GS) class.
“We were very disappointed with the result at Watkins Glen last weekend, said Wittmer. The team did an outstanding job preparing the car all weekend, therefore very frustrating to end on a low for everyone involved.”
“However, we are taking all the positive points from the first half of the season, like our win in Daytona last January and our pace at every event. Knowing we are very competitive, we are looking forward to the second half of the season.”
The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge CTMP 120 will be broadcast live on IMSA.tv at 1:55 pm.
