PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO-  For the first time since September of 1989, the Empire Super Sprints made the trek to the Humberstone Speedway and it was Paul Kinney from picking up the victory in their 25 lap A-Main.

Lee Winger from Caledonia, Ontario used a last lap pass to pick up his second consecutive J.C. Auto Street Stock feature event. Danny Wurster from Niagara Falls, Ontario claimed the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks. Dylan Sliter from Port Colborne, Ontario picked up his first Trackside Decals Mini Stock feature of the season while Sam Iftody from Fenwick, Ontario picked up his fifth Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stocks feature of the season. A gigantic Fireworks display rounded out the program to officially welcome the Canada Day holiday.

“The Real Deal” Chris Steele and Paul Kinney led the field of Empire Super Sprints to Starter John Veach’s double green flags and it was Kinney picking up the lead on lap one. Steve Poirier moved into second place early on while Chris Jones moved into third and began his chase of Poirier. The leaders hit lap traffic on lap seven and race leader Kinney had some problems with the traffic and Poirier began to reel in the leader.

Matt Tanner went underneath Jones to take over third while Poirier reeled in the rear nerf bar of Kinney just before the races halfway point. Matt Tanner was racing third while Chris Jones and “the Cobra” Chuck Hebing raced his way into fifth at the cross flags. Tanner reeled in Poirier for second and went downstairs and pulled the slide job to take over second on lap 23.

Paul Kinney went two for two on the weekend as he picked up the win. Tanner, Poirier, Chris Jones, Hebing, Young, Parent, Steele, Collard and Kevin Ward Jr completed the top ten. “It was a great weekend and we have five straight days of racing coming up so its always good to keep the car in one piece” said Kinney in victory lane.

The Empire Super Sprints officially kicked off their Summer Sprint Week at Humberstone as they begin their five day-five different race track tour throughout Central New York State.

Mike Greene and Jim Lampman were on the front row for the J.C. Auto Street Stocks feature and it was Lampman leading the opening circuit. Divisional point’s leader going into the night’s racing action Cory Turner would loop the 19 machine to bring out the first caution of the event. On the restart it was Lee Winger taking over the lead while Jason Fontaine moved into second with James Thompson racing in third as Jim Lampman moved out of the top five after leading the first lap. Fontaine used a lap six restart to take over the race lead but Winger would retake the lead on lap eight. Thompson moved underneath Fontaine to take over second. Thompson would go to work on Winger and would go side by side for several circuits with Winger continuing to hold the top position. The caution came out on lap 16 for a multicar spin and on the restart it was Winger showing the way but James Thompson would try and duck underneath Winger for the lead and would go down the back stretch side by side and Winger kept the lead on the outside lane. Thompson went downstairs again and passed Winger on the back straightaway but Winger used the momentum on the outside of the track in turns three and four to steal the win away from Thompson and picked up his second straight win.

Veteran drivers Andy Imbeault and Danny Wurster led the field of Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks to the green flag and it was Wurster using the outside to take the lead on the opening circuit. Imbeault went underneath Wurster for the lead but Wurster was able to keep the lead. Greg Haegens raced his way into third while Kyle Tomaski racing in fourth pulled away from the field at the races halfway point with Wurster showing the way. Imbeault once again went downstairs but Wurster maintained the lead with Kyle Tomaski taking over second and tried his luck going downstairs of Wurster for the lead on lap 11. Tomaski threw everything at Wurster and raced his way to the lead as the white flag flew. Tomaski pulled away to what would appear to be his first career Pro 4 Truck win but was deemed to be light at the scales, thus handing the win to Danny Wurster.

Nate Monahan and Greg Wilson were on the front row for the Trackside Decals Mini Stocks with Wilson taking over the lead. Jason Coutu and Leroy Buscumb made contact on the front stretch and Buscumb climbed the concrete wall and came to a stop just to the outside of turn one. On the restart it was the Wilson family showing the way but the yellow flag would immediately come back out as Jason Coutu, Kurtis Wiley, Katie Cosco, and Jade Pelletter came together in turn one while Evan Curtis, Dave Small came together in turn four. The restart saw Dylan Sliter went three wide with Greg Wilson and Kyle Pelrine to take over the race lead on lap four. Pelrine raced his way passed Greg Wilson for second on lap six and began his chase of Sliter. Points leader Evan Cutis moved back up through the field and raced into the top five after passing Garnett Wilson on lap eight. The leaders raced side by side with Pelrine getting the bumper ahead of Sliter but Sliter pulled away on lap 12 in turn two. Evan Curtis continued to reel in the lead duo as Pelrine went underneath Sliter but Curtis made a “manly move” and went bonze to the bottom of the racetrack to take the lead going into turns three and four but Sliter was able to keep his momentum and pick up the win over Curtis with Pelrine, Tyler Lafantaisie and Greg Wilson completing the top five.

Bill Smith and qualifying event winner Roy Crawford led the field of Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stocks to the opening green flag and it was third place starter Marcel Beauregard that took the advantage after making a three wide move on the opening circuit. Multi-time feature winner Sam Iftody moved into second place on lap three and then took over the lead just one lap later. After a Mason Smith spin on lap five, Iftody pulled away from the field with Brad Booker racing in second place. A lap ten spin for Roy Crawford set up a five lap shootout and Iftody continued to show the way with Kyle Tomaski taking over second place. Iftody pulled away and picked up his fifth win of the season. Kyle Tomaski would finish in second and was followed to the line by Brad Alward, Chris Anderson and Olivier Larocque.

HUMBERSTONE NOTES: 31 Empire Super Sprints signed in pitside along with 19 Street Stocks, 19 Mini Stocks, 12 Pro 4 Trucks and 11 Pure Stocks for a grand total of 92 cars in the pits. The ESS Sprints took just under 7:30 to run a caution-free event. Final checkered flag flew at 9:35pm.

Racing returns to the Port Colborne oval on Sunday July 7th as Xtreme Custom Exhaust and Sharpes Automotive presents the DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks and Mini Stocks.
