Mirabel (QC), August 29, 2021 – Kevin Lacroix is back in the winner’s circle with Saturday’s win at Complexe ICAR. With this victory, the Bumper to Bumper team is now in third place in the NASCAR Pinty’s championship standings, three points out of second place and seven points out of first place.
It was a perfect race from the Saint-Eustache native who knows Circuit ICAR like the back of his hand. Indeed, the Dodge #74 Bumper to Bumper / Lacroix Tuning car driver started from the second position for this 75-lap event. Right from the start, Lacroix was chasing leader Andrew Ranger, while keeping an eye on Alex Tagliani, who was putting pressure on him lap after lap.
After a quarter of the race elapsed, Lacroix took the lead on a dry track. However, halfway through the race, the rain came in play, giving an extra challenge to the participants. After a caution flag to allow the drivers to return to their trucks to switch from slick tires to rain tires, Lacroix proved to be unbeatable until the very end of the race that he finished first, thus winning three of the last four events held at the Mirabel airport track.
“It was a perfect race,” said the winner. “I’ve always loved racing at ICAR, it’s a track that suits my driving style, and the fact that we raced on the small track gave the fans a good show.”
“At the beginning of the race, we had to be smart and patient; I had to put pressure on Andrew Ranger while looking in my mirrors and not forgetting the drivers behind me. On the other hand, I love it when it rains; I excel in the rain. So, I was happy that halfway through the race we had to switch to rain tires. If it wasn’t for the few caution flags at the end of the race, I think I could have finished several seconds ahead of Ranger. However, we had some great battles, especially on the restart in the rain; we were four cars wide at turn one!”
Indeed, the NASCAR Pinty’s drivers put on a great show for the hundreds of fans around the venue.
“I was happy to see a whole section occupied by the Bumper to Bumper guests again; there was a tide of red t-shirts! I am truly lucky to have such a committed partner in my races.”
Sunday’s event in Vallée-Jonction was postponed due to inclement weather. The series will be back at Autodrome Chaudière on September 18. The following event will be next week at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for a double header.
The ICAR event will be broadcast on RDS2 on September 11 at 2:30 pm and on TSN on September 5 at 4:30 pm.
