KINCARDINE, ON- With just two race nights remaining in the 2015 Sauble Speedway season, Thunder Car rookie Kevin Bridge will enter August 29th’s event hoping to finish his freshman campaign in a big way – and will look to secure his second consecutive top-5 finish.
Bridge tallied a top-5 performance in August 15th Thunder Car action at Sauble, then worked his Mini Stock to victory lane on August 22nd. With his momentum – and fortune – starting to take a turn for the better, Bridge hopes he can continue moving in the right direction this Saturday.
“Fitting in a win amidst all of the work we’ve been doing was a nice break,” laughs Bridge, tongue firmly planted in cheek. “It meant the world to us – it really did. This has been a tough season, and being able to give ourselves a small reminder of just how good it feels to roll into victory lane was the perfect motivator to keep us going”
Bridge’s mechanical struggles have been well documented, as the multi-time Mini Stock winner works tirelessly to assimilate himself with Sauble Speedway’s powerhouse Thunder Car division.
“When we came into this year, we were ready to take our lumps in the Thunder Car because it was brand new to us,” reasons the Rookie of the Year contender. “Our Mini Stock was supposed to be our ‘sure thing’, but it seems we’ve had an equal number of hiccups with both of our cars. It’s taken a lot of patience, but we haven’t ever thought about giving up”
“We worked our way to the top-5 the last time we had this car out, and that will without question be our goal for this Saturday,” continues Bridge – referencing August 15th’s performance. “Everything is starting to feel a lot more natural these days. It’s like learning the sport all over again, from the ground up. But, the more time we put in, the better it feels. We were more concerned about learning than we were about results this season, and so far it’s working out”
The LiUNA-backed driver will enter August 29th 4th in Sauble Speedway points, just 4 points out of 2nd place.
“With everything we’ve fought through, to be this close to 2nd in points is incredible,” marvels Bridge. “Kenny [Grubb] is having a dream season – and that championship is already locked up. But, everything else is there for the taking. For us, in our first year with this car, finishing runner-up in the standings would be every bit as special as a championship and that’s what we have our eyes on heading into this Saturday”
“We just need to stay consistent,” continues Bridge. “A top-3 would make a huge difference right now, and I know that if we can keep the bugs out of this car we most certainly have a fighting chance at a podium finish.”
