BOWMANVILLE, ON- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 veteran Kerry Micks endured a weekend of frustration and mechanical troubles at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but soldiered on to a 14th place finish in Pinty’s presents The Clarington 200 on August 31st.
“All things considered, I’m proud of how this team got through this weekend”, offered Micks post-race.
“We had a great car early on in practice, but the car developed a bad push that we couldn’t diagnose right away”, continued the veteran. “It turned out to be a bad locker in the rear-end. We found it in time for the race, but it meant that we weren’t able to utilize our practice time to set the car up the way we wanted to”
“It had us playing catch up all weekend”, added Micks.
Despite the aggravation of battling an ill-handling racecar throughout the event, Micks showed admirable composure. The No. 02 Johnsonville Sausage/Leland Industries/GoTire Ford qualified 9th overall and ran within the top-15 all afternoon.
“This car definitely had the potential to be one of the quickest entries here this weekend”, said Micks. “Before our mechanical issues, we were 4th quickest in practice. So I know the speed was there”
“We’re not going to beat ourselves up. There’s a lot to be proud of this weekend. My guys worked through our problems like true professionals, and we fought through our issues for a top-15 finish against some of the best road course racers in the country”
The Micks Motorsports team will turn their sights back to their oval car program, when Micks’ teammate Mark Dilley returns to action this Saturday, September 6th at Barrie Speedway for the Wahta Springs 300.
“Mark’s always had great runs at Barrie”, said Micks. “It’s one of his strongest tracks, and I have all the confidence in the world that he’ll be able to muscle this number 02 to the front. It’ll be worth the price of admission, I’m sure”
