August 17, 2013- Castrol Edge Dodge driver DJ Kennington arrived at Riverside Speedway near Antigonish, NS looking to continue his momentum into round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Kennington again showed the heart and determination of a champion claiming a second place result.
While the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was solid in first practice the team made adjustments that further improved the cars performance.
“We made a few handling changes and it really helped” said Kennington who would post the fifth fastest time during qualifying.
As the 300 lap feature event Kennington maintained a position with the top runners in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. He would make a scheduled pit stop for fuel and left side tires during the first caution period just past lap 50.
Throughout the event the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was one of the most consistent cars on track. Long green flag runs throughout the race whittled the number of cars on the lead lap down to just a handful.
When the final caution flag fell over the field it set up a shoot-out to the finish. Kennington made a pit stop to change left side tires and would line up third on the restart. The front runners pushed and shoved each other around the race track jockeying for position in the closing laps.
“When you get down to the end fighting for the win we all went as hard as we could” said Kennington.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge would cross the line second and that result keeps the title fight close among Kennington and several other drivers.
“We didn’t gain ground tonight but this is going to be a great fight right to the finish and we’re going hard for another championship” said Kennington.
After nine events DJ Kennington sits second in the overall championship only four points behind the top spot.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team return to action on September 1st at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park near Bowmanville, ON.
