SASKATOON, SK (July 25, 2019)- DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team opened the annual western swing of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series racing season Wednesday evening at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with twin 125-lap races. While it was a challenging first event, the team rebounded with a runner up finish in the second race.
It was a challenging day for the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team with weather delaying and allowing for a truncated practice before qualifying. Kennington would post the ninth quickest lap time during the session.
“I made a mistake in the set up during practice, we corrected but it put us behind a little bit” said Kennington.
During the first of the two races Kennington was smartly moving the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward in the field and was poised for a solid result. Heavy rain showers moved into the area and shortly before the race was halted the car stalled out and dropped many positions.
“It just shut off” said a frustrated Kennington. “Maybe it was something that got wet, but it fired right up and was fine afterwards” he added.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was fast and with the second quickest race lap in round one claimed the third starting spot for race number two. Kennington quickly jumped into second and pulled away from the competition and hunted down his teammate that was in the lead and briefly took over the top spot.
Late in the race the #17 after an extended segment under green flag conditions the Castrol Edge Dodge would fall back one position and capture a second-place finish.
“We were really good on shorter runs” explained the driver. “It was a good battle for the lead for a while, then we to fend off some pressure from behind, but a solid result here in Saskatoon, we’ll be pushing hard to be one spot better at Edmonton” he added.
DJ Kennington and the Castrol Edge Dodge team are back in action this weekend with a 300-lap event at Edmonton International Raceway in Wetaskiwin, AB.
