SASKATOON, SK (July 25, 2018)- DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team arrived in Saskatoon to begin the NASCAR Pinty’s Series annual western swing on Wednesday. The two-time winner at the 1/3 mile oval had a very strong car in both of the 125 lap races posting top-five finishes in both events, but an ill timed caution flag in both races also worked against them.

Earlier in the week Kennington visited with team and family members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team to deliver the hood from his Humboldt tribute car he ran earlier this year at the NASCAR Cup Series race following the team’s tragic bus crash.

“It was really emotional and having the opportunity to talk and spend time with them was really special. Hopefully we helped them along in the healing process” said Kennington.

As action at the track got underway Kennington posted the second quickest time during the afternoon practice session. He would qualify the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge eighth which didn’t completely surprise the driver.

“The car takes time to come in on this track, even though we didn’t qualify as high up as I’d like, we’ll be strong in the race” he stated.

True to his word Kennington began moving the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward shortly after the green flag. As the first of the twin 125’s moved past the 80 lap mark Kennington was poised for more success when the caution flag flew for an on track incident. When the race resumed he was unable to gain any addition places and finished fifth.

“We were stuck on the outside after that restart and it didn’t help, but making a few changes to the car I think we can be better” said the diver between races.

Coincidentally Kennington would also begin the second half of the double header in eight spot and just as he did in the first race began to move the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward when the racing began. Incredibly once again a yellow flag at a similar point in that race also hampered any further progress, once again he would take the checkered flag in fifth position.

“We were just a little loose off the corners in the late stages” explained Kennington. Overall though, solid points day for us, we’re in the championship hunt”.

After six events DJ Kennington sits fourth in the overall championship, just 11 points behind the top spot.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge is back on track this Saturday, July 28th for 300 laps of action at Edmonton International Raceway in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
