HAGERSVILLE, ON (September 12, 2020)- DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team have shown plenty of speed during previous events in the 2020 NASCAR Pinty’s Series events. And at the season finale this past Saturday at Jukasa Speedway in Hagersville, ON they put it all together and captured the victory the second of the two races at the season ending doubleheader event.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was the quickest car during the shakedown, practice session, however Kennington drew the 14th starting position for the first of two 125-lap races. Showing his skill at the wheel he quickly moved forward and collected a fourth-place finish in the race.
“The car got really loose in the second half of the race and we discovered problem with the right front brake afterwards too” explained Kennington. “We knew that we had to make some changes for the second race” he added.
Those changes to the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge worked to perfection. Kennington selected the number one starting spot on the grid during the random draw. As in the previous race the car was quick and paced the field in the early going. The test would come in the second half of the race.
Six caution periods would slow the field during the race and on restarts the #17 Castrol Dodge took a few laps to return to peak performance. After the final restart, Kennington drove away from field and would lead the final 36 laps finish more than four seconds ahead of the second-place car.
It was an appreciative and thankful Kennington after the race. “What a job by this Castrol team” he exclaimed. “They never give up; they only work harder. We knew that we were close a few times and today we broke through. That’s the kind of dedication and effort they bring, can’t thank them enough”.
“I also have to thank Castrol Canada; they’ve been with me since I was a kid. This has been a really tough year for a lot of companies, and they’ve stuck with me to make this possible, this is for you.
The only thing that would have made the victory better would be to have celebrated with the fans. “It sucks there’s no burnouts in front of fans in the grandstands” stated Kennington. “Hearing them cheer and putting on a great show for them is why we do this. Please keep doing your part and stay safe and we’ll look forward to having you back at the track next season” he added.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team collected five, top-5 finishes in the six-race season and finished the year third overall in the championship.
