CHESLEY, ON- With weeks remaining until Sauble Speedway kicks off its 2014 season, Josh Stade is hoping to generate some early momentum with his entry into May 3rd’s inaugural Spring Derby 100 at Sunset Speedway.
“We’ve worked tirelessly on our car all season long, we’ve been counting down the days to the Spring Derby”, explained an excited Stade in a recent trip to the team’s Chesley, ON shop.
Stade will find himself matched against some of the elite of the Limited Late Model division, in a $2500 to win extended distance event.
“There’s something about Sunset Speedway that brings out the big names”, said Stade. “You’ve got to bring your A-Game if you hope to run at the front. It’s the perfect test for our program to open up the season”.
The second-generation competitor is eager to stake his claim at the 2014 Sauble Speedway championship, and hopes to put the province on notice with a breakout performance on May 3rd.
“There’s going to be alot of eyes on this event”, offers Stade. “It’s the perfect opportunity to show our sponsors and supporters exactly what our program is about this season”.
When asked about strategy heading into the 100-lap event, Stade is forthcoming about what he deems important.
“Tire management is going to be everything in this event. You can’t beat on your equipment for 80 laps and hope for it to be there for you when it matters. The most important thing to remember, as a competitor, is to save your tires for a late race push. I’m hoping to cruise for the first half of the event, and let the rest of the field sort itself out”.
‘Primetime’ will find himself pitted against a star studded entry list, including defending Sunset Speedway champion Mike ‘Lights Out’ Bentley, reigning Autumn Colours Classic winner Dwayne Baker and 7-time champion ‘Mr. Excitement’ Chris Morrow.
Stade’s 2014 season will be made possible thanks to MEI Paving, APC of Chesley and Hanover, Upper Canada Tile, Kunkel Bus Lines, Chesley Kinsmen and Ken’s Truck Painting.
