BARRIE, ON- Third-generation star Jordan Latimer notched a top-5 finish in his first career Thunder Car Mid-Season Championship appearance at Barrie Speedway on July 5th.
The Coldwater, ON driver combated a loose handling racecar through much of the 50-lap contest, running mid-pack for much of the race until a rally within the final 10-laps took the teenager to a 5th place finish.
“Our car got better as the night went on”, summarized Latimer post-race. “The way this car was fighting me in the heat races, I’m incredibly happy with a top-5 finish. We just had a loose condition that we couldn’t shake. My guys did their absolute best tonight, I can’t thank em enough”
Looking back at his first ever extended distance Thunder Car event, Latimer reflected on his mid-season improvements.
“Tonight was kind of a summary of how much we’ve grown as a team”, offered the 15-year old. “I’m not sure, two months ago, if my feedback would have been good enough to help these guys improve the car’s handling. And I’m almost positive I wouldn’t have been able to hang on to it when it was at its loosest”
“We’ve made some huge gains. I’m so lucky to have the team that I do. If I can keep improving through the second half of the year, as much as I did the first half, we’ll be in good shape”
The top-5 performance allowed Latimer to move into 3rd in the overall Thunder Car point standings, and tighten his grip on the division’s Rookie of the Year battle.
“Considering the amount of talent in this class, being third in points at mid-season is huge”, said Latimer.
“Right now, the plan is just keep doing what we’ve been doing. Consistent finishes. Top-5s and hope to bring home another win before season’s end”
Jordan will return to action at Barrie Speedway this Saturday, July 12th. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.BarrieSpeedway.com.
