COLDWATER, ON- After an up-and-down outing in Ltd. Late Model competition last Sunday, rookie Jordan Latimer will be back behind the wheel at Sunset Speedway this Saturday, July 25th.
The third-generation competitor battled to a 13th place finish in Sunday’s 35-lap event, and will look to race his way back into the top-10 on Saturday night.
“I don’t mind admitting that last Sunday didn’t exactly play out the way we had hoped it would,” says Latimer with a smile. “But, we still learned a whole lot, so we made the most of a tough situation”
“In a field like this, it doesn’t make sense to be mad at a top-15 finish,” continues the high-school student. “I hadn’t raced the Late Model at Sunset in the daytime prior to Sunday, and that was an experience all on its own”
“I couldn’t believe how slick the track stayed all day. We made a ton of notes – and we’ll be better prepared for next time”
But, even in times of frustration, Latimer seems to be enjoying every step of his freshman season on the Sunset Speedway Late Model roster.
“My grandfather used to always tell me that a bad day at the race track was still better than a good day at work,” notes the 2014 Barrie Speedway Thunder Car Rookie of the Year. “He was right. No matter how we’re running – I’m loving every minute of it”
“We’ll get back out there this Saturday and see about getting this car back to the top-5”
When asked to evaluate his rookie campaign thus far, Latimer notes that while there have been bright spots, there is always room for improvement.
“I’m happy with what we’ve been able to do so far this season, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be totally satisfied with my performances. Every week, as soon as I get home, I load up my GoPro footage and comb through it to find any mistakes I made”
“I’m my own toughest critic, no doubt,” continues the 16-year old. “But, I just want to make sure that I’m performing at the level that my team deserves. These guys take a lot of time away from their lives and their families to make sure our car is ready to go on Saturday and I want to be able to repay their efforts by giving 100% on the track.”
