COLDWATER, ON- After earning a 6th place finish in June 28th action at Barrie Speedway, third-generation competitor Jordan Latimer is ready to chase his first career Mid-Season Championship.
“I can’t wait to toss my name in the ring for the Mid-Season Championship”, said Latimer when reached for comment. “We’ve had a great car the last couple weeks, and it really feels as though our program is coming into its own”
“Every Saturday, I leave the racetrack having learned something”, added the Rookie of the Year contender. “I couldn’t ask to be affiliated with a better team than Ridge Road Racing. Gord [Shepherd] has been an incredible driver coach”
Just weeks removed from his first career victory, Latimer has turned heads province-wide as he continues his ascent through Barrie’s perennial competitive Thunder Car division.
“It’s been up and down”, said the 15-year old when asked of his freshman season. “We had a few weeks through the beginning of June where it felt as though we couldn’t buy a solid finish. Then, we got our first win, and it really energized us”
“I feel as though this team, with this equipment, has the ability to race for a win on any given Saturday. These guys have won championships before. This is one of the best teams in the division. In a lot of ways, I just need to catch up”
The Coldwater, ON driver currently leads the Rookie of the Year points standings in Barrie’s Thunder Car division, and sees the Mid-Season Championship as the ideal motivation to enter the second half of the season.
“We’re hoping for some better luck in the second half of the season”, offered Latimer. “Winning the mid-season championship is the perfect start. I’ve learned from every race I’ve had this year; the good and the bad. Now, I just have to apply it”
