COLDWATER, ON- Third-generation competitor Jordan Latimer continued his ascent through the Barrie Speedway Thunder Car division on July 19th, turning heads in a strong top-3 run that vaulted the 15-year old to 2nd place in division standings.
“We had a great car all night, this was one of the best nights we’ve had this season”, smiled Latimer post-race.
“This Ride Road Racing team works so hard to keep a solid piece under me, I can’t thank them enough. It really feels as though we’ve gelled as a team this season”
After winning both of his qualifying heat races, Latimer entered the 30-lap event eager to work his way to the front.
“I felt as confident as I have all season heading out for the feature”, said Latimer. “When everything is clicking with this car, and our team, I feel like we’re as good as anybody in this pit area”
The former Karting standout explains the team’s recent turnaround is thanks to a bevy of laps turned and an untold number of hours spent troubleshooting.
“We had a few weeks back-to-back where we really struggled, and it just didn’t feel like the car was quite right”, explained Latimer, “so, we came out to a few practice sessions at Barrie and turned a tonne of laps, and found a few things that needed to be tweaked”
“Since then, the car’s been completely different”, added the high-school student.
Latimer’s most recent performance helped boost the team to 2nd in Barrie Speedway Thunder Car points, a position that Latimer hopes to defend when he returns to competition on July 26th.
“Right now, we’re in an awesome spot with the points standings”, offered the personable freshman, “we’re leading the rookie points and second overall. Hopefully, we can put together another solid run this Saturday and keep ourselves in the top-3”
“This division is full of so many talented drivers, it’s incredibly humbling to be having the success that we are”, continued Latimer. “Our initial goal was a top-5 in points and to contend for Rookie of the Year, so we’re ecstatic with where we are right now”
