COLDWATER, ON- Freshman standout Jordan Latimer is ready to return to action at Barrie Speedway, eager to make up ground in the Barrie Speedway Thunder Car points chase after a frustrating outing on August 2nd.
“Last Saturday was just one of those nights. By the end, it felt like we couldn’t do anything right”, offers the personable teenager. “In the feature, we developed a bad miss in the motor, blew a tire under caution and fought a vibration through the entire second half of the race”
“It wasn’t our night”, adds Latimer with a smile.
The third-generation competitor has been a pleasant surprise in 2014, competing for Gord Shepherd’s lauded Ridge Road Racing team in his first season behind the wheel of a full-bodied stock car.
“We didn’t really come into this season with huge expectations, so the way things have worked out has been awesome”, explains Latimer. “I think people may have underestimated us a bit at the beginning of the season, so it’s been great just proving ourselves and showing that we definitely have what it takes to run at the front of the field”
After finding himself 2nd in championship points for several weeks, Latimer’s 7th place finish on August 2nd dropped the 15-year old to 3rd place in the standings. The team will enter August 9th’s event eager to battle their way back to the runner-up spot.
“The guys did a tonne of work this week in the shop, and we’re confident we’ve got all the bugs worked out of the car. It’s a tough field we’re up against, so making up ground isn’t easy, but we’re definitely ready to give it our all”
“There’s 5 points separating us from 2nd in points, and with a little bit of luck we should be able to close that gap on Saturday”
