COLDWATER, ON- Ltd. Late Model freshman contender Jordan Latimer is ready for his second start in Sunset Speedway headline division after an encouraging start to his 2015 season on May 2nd.
The third-generation driver impressed in his divisional debut, despite suffering transmission issues that ultimately saddled his No. 90 entry with a 25th place finish.
“I’m excited for the whole experience from top to bottom,” beams Latimer when asked about his rookie season. “We’re happy to take the good with the bad. We had some mechanical problems to work through last week – but that’s all part of the game”
“Opening night was an amazing experience. Pulling onto pit road for time trials and looking around at some of the drivers that I’ve grown up watching was one of the highlights of my career to date”
“No matter what our stats show at the end of the year, this is a dream come true for me,” adds the personable high-school student.
When asked of his car’s performance, Latimer is quick to explain that in many ways his Ken Semkin-owned ride exceeded the team’s expectations.
“Our goal for opening night was to unload, learn as much as we could in practice and race our way into the show. Once we accomplished that, the rest of the night was a bonus”
“The car felt fantastic before we had issues with our transmission in Feature One,” continues Latimer. “We were able to make up some positions very early in the race and I was getting more confident as the race went on”
“I wanted to come out and try a few different lines to see where the car felt most comfortable. This is all still really new to me. I was surprised at how good the car felt on the outside. My guys gave me a fantastic piece – and I think if we do a little more homework, we can be even better for Night 2”
Looking towards the future, Latimer adds that although his team has moved from a Super Stock to a Late Model in 2015, many of their goals remain the same.
“Our goal for this season really isn’t a lot different from where we were last year. We just want to learn as much as we can and keep improving. If we’re better at the end of the night than we were when we signed in at the pit gate – then we’ll be happy.”
Jordan will return to action – alongside the rest of the Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park NASCAR Late Model division – at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, May 9th.
