HILLSBURGH, ON- Following a September 5th victory in his most recent NASCAR Whelen All-American Series appearance, Sunset Speedway Mini Stock championship contender Jordan Howse is full of confidence entering the division’s 35-lap season finale on Saturday night.
“Heading into championship night off of a win is the best momentum we could ask for,” smiles Howse when asked about his family-run team’s outlook ahead of Saturday’s event.
“Our car worked phenomenal last weekend, but I think we can still squeeze a little bit more out of it. For us – this is all or nothing. We’re unloading on Saturday morning to win the feature. Anything else will be a disappointment”
Howse admits his team’s most recent triumph came as somewhat of a surprise, after an August 15th wreck threatened to derail their season entirely.
“We thought our season was over when we had this car in the front stretch wall last month,” admits Howse.
“The fact that we’re even able to talk about points right now is a minor miracle,” continues the high-school student. “All we can do is come out and lay everything on the line, give it everything we have and hope that it’s enough. The teams that we’re racing are some of the absolute best in the province. So we’ll have to be at our very best to beat them”
After 5 feature victories this season, Howse notes that a track championship would mean more to his team than just about anything.
“I’m grateful for every win that we earned this season – but being able to call ourselves champions would be something else entirely,” says the sophomore competitor.
“To say that we went head to head with the guys on this roster, and came out in front of them, would be a huge accomplishment. We’ve put in the hours and we’ve done the research – now we just need to win tomorrow’s feature and hope it’s enough.”
