INNISFIL, ON- Second-generation driver Jordan Howse made sure to keep things interesting in Sunset Speedway Mini Stock action on May 23rd. After suffering a cut tire early in the 25-lap event, the championship hopeful rebounded for a head-turning come-from-behind performance that earned him his second top-5 of the young 2015 season.
“At least we were able to keep things interesting,” laughed Howse post-race. “This one is going to beat me up all week. We had a car capable of winning tonight. I feel like I may have given one away”
Howse cut the tire in a three-wide attempt for the race lead on lap-2, before charging back through the 20-car field in the remaining laps.
“I saw an opening and tried to take advantage,” explained the teenager. “As soon as I got my nose in, the hole started to close up and I knew it wasn’t going to end well”
“I’m happy that we caught the caution right away and were able to get our tire changed and get back on track. If we had lost a lap, there’s no way we would have been able to fight our way back to the top-5”
The 2014 Velocity 250 winner cut through the field to 4th, and appeared ready to challenge for a podium finish before running out of laps.
“This was the best the car has felt all season long,” said Howse. “We may not have won tonight, but we learned enough about our setup that we’ll have something for the top contenders next week”
“The fact that we were able to make up the ground that we did is a huge confidence boost for our team. My guys work so hard on this car, and I don’t think there’s any denying that the hard work is starting to pay off. We’re ready for a win – we just have to put all the pieces together next week.”
Jordan will return to action this Saturday, May 30th for Week 4 of the 2015 Sunset Speedway season. Details and advanced tickets can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca.
