ALLISTON, ON (April 24, 2017) – With the merger of the Sunset Speedway MIGHTY and Mini Stock divisions, 2016 MIGHTY champion Johnny Paradzinski and his family-owned team are set for a new challenge against an established group of veterans and contenders for the 2017 campaign.
“I had the time of my life last year,” laughs the personable sophomore when asked of his surprise run to a championship in just his first year of racing.
“We were able to build something from the ground up as far as this team goes. We’re all looking forward to getting back to work this season. With everything I’ve learned, I feel like our ceiling is higher than it’s ever been.”
For Paradzinski – in addition to the rest of the nearly 20-car MIGHTY Division – the merger presents a chance to compete against a Sunset Speedway Mini Stock division wrought with talent.
“Merging the two divisions is a big opportunity for us,” explains the Alliston, ON native. “The Mini Stock roster is full of guys at the top of their game. These are some of the best teams in Ontario. It’s an honour to race with them. And, hopefully, it’s going to be a huge accomplish to beat them.”
And while Paradzinski will enter 2017 with a division championship in his back pocket, the well-spoken sophomore is not willing to look past his competition for a moment.
“I’m not sure our championship last season gives us a leg up on anyone else in this division,” admits the multi-time feature winner. “We’re not too proud to go back to the drawing board. We’ve worked all season to make sure we’re as ready as we can be to jump right into the mix on opening night.”
On the topic of his goals for his first outing as a Mini Stock regular, the first-generation racer opted to err on the side of caution and optimism in place of making bold predictions.
“I have no idea what to expect this season,” says Paradzinski. “We’re coming into it with an open mind. We just hope to keep improving the way we did in 2016. I promise we aren’t afraid of hard work. We’re prepared to do what’s necessary to beat these teams and hopefully we’ll end up where we deserve to be at the end of the season.”
