@NewHumberstone •PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO (July 3, 2016) Welland, Ontario’s Joey Mastrioanni was victorious in the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman feature on Tidyman Maintenance and Port Colborne Laundry night at Humberstone Speedway this past Sunday night. For Mastrioanni, it was his first career Sportsman triumph at Humberstone. Rob Pietz from Gasline, Ontario won his second Pinty’s RUSH Late Model feature of the season. Rob Murray from St. Catharines, Ontario won his third JC Auto Street Stock feature of the season. Danny Wurster from Niagara Falls, Ontario won the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Truck feature event. Rob Goulding was victorious in the Eve of Destruction Enduro qualifier and is now qualified for the Eve of Destruction, set for September 25th.
Dylan Davidson and Joey Mastrioanni led the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their 25 lap feature event and Mastrioanni used the outside to get around Davidson to take the lead at the end of the opening circuit. The first caution would appear at the end of lap one as Rob Knapp and Jay Mallory came together in turn two; with both being able to continue on racing. Mastrioanni would lead off the restart as Davidson would hold off the challenges of Tyler Puchalski and Justin Sharp for much of the feature distance. After a Sean Dominey spin in turn three to bring out the caution on lap 14, Justin Sharp would pass Davidson to take over second. Cody McPherson had a solid race as he would move into third place with eight laps remaining. Mastrioanni would go on to score the win, his first career DIRT Sportsman triumph. Sharp would settle for second, followed by McPherson, Davidson and Chad Chevalier.
Rob Pietz took the lead away from outside pole sitter Ken Winfield entering turn two to begin the feature event for the Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Models. Jeff Dayman passed Sam Pennacchio for second on lap four; however Pennacchio would regain the position just two laps later. Pennacchio would challenge Pietz for several circuits. Tim Gillespie moved into second on lap fifteen. Pietz would not give up the lead as he would lead from flag-to-flag to score the win, his second of the season. Gillespie would finish in second and was followed to the line by Sam Pennacchio, Jeff Dayman and Dennis Lunger Jr would round out the top five.
Vince Fargnoli led from the outset in the 20 lap feature for the JC Auto Street Stocks. Rob Murray jumped into second on lap and began to challenge Fargnoli for the lead. Off a lap three caution Rob Murray began to mount his challenge on Fargnoli and would complete the pass on lap five for the lead. At the halfway point, Murray would continue to lead the field over Jason Fontaine, Bill Bleich Jr, Dave Bailey and Fargnoli. Murray would hold off Fontaine in the second half of the race to score his third win on the season.
Frank Perry led from the drop of the green flag in the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks feature. Danny Wurster took the lead on lap four with Perry in second with Craig Vlasic challenging Perry for second. Vlasic would take second away on lap seven as Dylan Llord moved into third. Wurster would hold off Vlasic in the late going to score his first win on the season, and it was a popular one for the driver from Niagara Falls.
Kyle Haynes led the opening circuits in the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks feature event. Haynes continued to show the way at the halfway point over Evan Curtis with Leroy Buscumb, Jay Moulton and Jason Coutu running in the top five. The caution would come out on lap 14 as Leroy Buscumb got into Evan Curtis, turning Curtis in turn one. Haynes would lead on the restart but it was Jay Moulton who went underneath Haynes in turn three and four to pick up the checkered flag, his first at Humberstone.
Mark Shadwell won the Vintage Car feature for his second on the season in the second appearance of the season. Chad Brown held off Bill Willard Jr for second place as the two put on a great battle for second for much of the feature event.
Steve Robison led the opening 17 circuits in the Eve of Destruction Enduro qualifier. Robison got loose exiting turn two and Rob Goulding would take over the lead. Goulding would hold off Jeremy Cooper and Robison to get the win and get locked into the Eve of Destruction, scheduled for Sunday September 25.
