QUEENSVILLE, ON- After bursting through for his first win of the 2015 season last Sunday, perennial Late Model championship contender Jason Witty has his eyes on an equally impressive follow up performance this evening.
“We’ve been just a little off all season, but every week we’ve been gaining,” smiles Witty. “Sunday night it all came together. The boys gave me an absolute bullet”
“It’s been a long road back to get this car where we want it, but we’re here now,” continues the second-generation driver. “I’m comfortable with the car. The team knows what we need to do. Now, the rest of this division just might have something to worry about”
‘Bam Bam’ credits his crew for remaining with him through the first half of the 2015 season, as they worked feverishly to find a package that worked for their familiar No. 19.
“I can’t thank my team enough for sticking with me these last two weeks,” says Witty. “We were really close the last time out, and decided to go home and change just about anything we could think of to try and get that last little bit out of this car. These guys worked their hands to the bones to get this car ready for last weekend. It was a big swing – but it worked”
Last Sunday, Witty slipped past Sunset Speedway heavyweight Taylor Holdaway to earn his feature victory. The Queensville, ON native knows that, should he wish to make a repeat visit to victory lane, he’ll likely have to go through Holdaway once more.
“Taylor has been the man around here lately, so it definitely means something to beat him,” opines the personable veteran. “I had a lot of fun racing with him. He’s a guy that you know you can run side-by-side with without getting used up. He didn’t give that spot up easy though – he made us work for it. We’re hoping to do the exact same thing tonight – and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s the guy standing between us and the race lead again”
Despite his success on Sunday evening, Witty admits the team enjoyed something far less than a week off when it came to preparations for tonight’s twin-35 lap feature events.
“We’ve been trying a few different packages to try and beat these guys. Every week we have something new, and we’ve just been waiting on a sign that we’re headed in the right direction,” notes Witty.
“Getting our first win of the season was huge, but I still think there’s a lot more this car has to offer. We’re ecstatic with the win, but I’d be lying if I told you that we didn’t go back to the drawing board on Monday to try and get better for tonight”
“That’s what you have to do in this division if you want to stay relevant,” continues Witty. “Because the guy next to you is doing it. So you better make sure that you are too. Out here, it’s all about squeezing every last little bit out of your equipment. You have to take every inch – and that’s what we’re aiming to do tonight.”
