QUEENSVILLE, ON- It’s tough to imagine a moment this season in which Ltd. Late Model star Jason Witty has appeared more focused. After back-to-back frustrating performances in Sunset’s 100-lap Championship Night finale on September 13th and 125-lap Canadian Limited Late Model Championship on September 18th, ‘Bam Bam’ is ready to reintroduce himself to the division’s elite at this weekend’s ‘Velocity 250’.
“I think we’re about due for a good run”, smiles Witty. “DNFs are all a part of the sport. We had a fuel pickup problem on championship night, and then we got dumped on September 18th, so I think we’ve got all the bad luck out of the way. It’s been a great season so far, and my guys have given me an absolute rocketship just about every single week. I just want to reward them with a big win before the end of the year”
Witty contended for the 2014 Sunset Speedway weekly championship – entering the final night of competition with less than 10 points separating him from eventual titlist Dwayne Baker. The Queensville, ON veteran’s program is as good as it’s ever been, and Witty hopes that will play a difference maker on Sunday afternoon.
“The last couple of races, I feel as though we were one of the best cars on the track”, explains the personable standout. “Circumstances just ended up taking us out. That’s fine. It’s all part of the game, you know? We went home, brushed ourselves off and now we’re ready to go again”
“I can’t remember a time in which our equipment was this good and our car was working this well”, continues Witty. “As a team, we’re as good as we’ve ever been. I’m excited to come out this weekend and remind ourselves just how good we can be when we’re on our A Game”
With over 30 cars expected to attempt to qualify for 24 available spots, Witty knows that a strong performance in qualifying on Saturday will be vital to his Velocity 250 weekend.
“This field is so stout that you don’t want to be tasked with coming from the back”, says ‘Bam Bam’. “You have to use up a lot of car coming through the pack, which takes a lot out of you when you finally do make it up to where it counts. As soon as you see your name on the board next to ‘B Main’, you know you’re in for a long night”
