STROUD, ON (August 16, 2020)- Sun Peaks, B.C. racer Jason White made his return to the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in the #28 Powder Ventures Excavating Dodge this past weekend during the season opening event at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, ON. With only an abbreviated season possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic, each race weekend will be a doubleheader event and feature two 125-lap races.
White was comfortable settling back in behind the wheel of the #28 Powder Ventures Excavating Dodge prepared by DJK Racing. With only a short practice session to get up to speed White posted the fourth quickest lap time during the session.
“Just like old times” said a smiling White after the practice. “These guys know their stuff and the #28 Powder Ventures Dodge felt great. “We also drew the outside front row starting spot in the first race, so we’ll just try to be smart and hope the guys behind us battle it out” he added.
For much of the first race White kept the #28 Powder Ventures Excavating Dodge in contention for a strong result but had trouble in the late stages.
“I was battling hard with the #18, he’s really good here, and I had trouble through turn one, wheel hopped a bit, broke the caliper and lost rear brakes, eventually lost all the fluid and we had to bring it in, it wasn’t safe to continue” explained White.
With some additional help from another team repairs were completed to the #28 Powder Ventures Dodge and White was able to start the second feature from the ninth starting position. White completed the second race scoring an eighth-place finish.
“We never would have made it out if not for some help from Larry Jackson’s team, so thanks to them” said White afterwards. “It was a scramble just to make it and the car didn’t really have it for the second race, so we did what we could. No further damage done so we’ll get it sorted out and I’ll be back at Jukasa” he added.
In spite of the struggles White and the #28 Powder Ventures team were happy to be back doing what they love. “It’s been way too long since we’ve been able to race in the Pinty’s Series” said White. “Huge thanks to everyone for working so hard to put together this season, to all the guys at DJK Racing, great job. I’m sorry I won’t be at the next one, but my daughter’s graduation celebration has to take priority”.
Jason White will return to action in the #28 Powder Ventures Dodge for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series event at Jukasa Speedway, Saturday September 12, 2020.
