PORT ELGIN, ON- Sauble Speedway veteran Jason Parker has won just about everything there is to lay claim to at his home track. A multi-time track champion, and former ‘Dash for Cash’ winner, Parker will be back in action this Wednesday, July 29th with hopes of earning a repeat trip to victory lane in the speedway’s annual Ltd. Late Model ‘Crown Jewel’.
“The Dash is always a race that any Sauble regular in this pit area will tell you they want on their resume,” explains Parker. “You’re gonna see some of the best Late Model drivers in the region haul up here – and we want to make sure not to let them get a win on our home turf. It’s a matter of pride. You don’t want to let someone from out of town poach a big race in your backyard”
“Trust me, I know from experience,” smiles ‘The New Age Punisher’. “Because we’ve won some big races away from home, and the hometrack guys made us work twice as hard for it”
When asked if defending his home turf puts additional strain on his pre-race psyche, Parker admits it will likely be on his mind when he hits the track on Wednesday.
“It definitely comes with a little bit of pressure,” shrugs the Port Elgin, On veteran. “But, that’s the stuff that we live for. As a team, we’ve been through a lot of big races and it just seems as though the more pressure we work through, the better we seem to perform. This race means something to all of us. We want to win it more than anyone does”
“When you stop caring about wins and losses, you should probably consider another hobby,” continues Parker. “If I get to the point where I don’t feel pressure, and I’m ready to accept not winning when we roll into the track, I’ll quit and go fishing. But, for now, these races bring out the very best in us. And we’re going to work like hell to get to victory lane at ‘the Dash'”
Despite entering the event as a former winner, Parker insists his previous successes do little to dull his aspirations for another ‘Dash for Cash’ title.
“We’ve won this race before – and I absolutely think that we have the program capable of winning it again,” notes the fan-favourite. “I want another one of these wins. I intend to have this car at the front on Wednesday night. This is not an easy place to come into as an outsider and find your way to the front. We’re pretty big believers in home track advantage and we plan on utilizing that this week.”
