SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Former Sauble Speedway champion Jason Parker showed no signs of rust after a three-week layoff, returning to Ltd. Late Model competition at ‘the Beach’ and earning his second straight feature victory.
“We had a rocket all day long”, beamed Parker upon clearing post-race technical inspection. “This car was so good on Night 1 that I almost worried we couldn’t get it to handle that well two weeks in a row. But, somehow, my guys pulled through again. We were every bit as good as we were on opening night”
After claiming victory in a qualifying heat race, Parker started deep in the field, with 35-laps to make his way to the front.
By half way, ‘The New Age Punisher’ had reached the back bumper of leader Marvin Freiburger, slipping into the lead and never looking back.
“I didn’t want to push the issue early on”, explained Parker. “Sauble’s extended our features this season, so it gives you a few extra laps to work. I made sure to take my time and make clean passes, to be absolutely sure I’d have enough left at the end”
“The car held up all night”, continued Parker. “We were just as fast on lap-35 as we were on lap-1, and as a driver, that’s all you can ask for”
With two feature wins to kick off the 2014 season, Parker will enter Week 3 of competition on June 21st in control of the Ltd. Late Model points standings.
“We know that it’s a long season, so we’re not too concerned with points racing just yet”, shrugged Parker. “With that being said, it’s always nice to be at the front. Because, with the quality of competition here, if you fall too far back in the points early, it would be awfully hard to make up the difference”
“Last season, we started off with 3 wins, before hitting a bit of a rough patch”, continued Parker. “We’re dedicated to making sure that doesn’t happen again. Guys like Scott [McTeer] and Marvin [Freiburger] don’t need much of an opening to get away from you. So, it’s my job to make sure I don’t give them that opportunity”
‘The New Age Punisher’ Jason Parker will look for his third straight feature victory this Saturday, June 21st. Gate times and ticket prices for the event can be found at www.SaubleSpeedway.ca
