PORT ELGIN, ON- Longtime friends – and adversaries – Jason Parker and Scott McTeer have announced their intentions to form a single-car partnership to compete for the 2015 Sauble Speedway weekly Ltd. Late Model championship.
The team will campaign the same McColl Racing Enterprises chassis that carried McTeer to back-to-back Sauble championships in 2012 and 2013.
“I had made peace with not racing at all in 2015, so putting this deal together so close to opening night is a pleasant surprise,” said McTeer. “Jason and I have had some pretty legendary battles in the past. I’ve raced for a longtime, and I don’t think I’ve ever had as much fun going toe-to-toe with a guy as I have with Parker”
“I’ve never shared a ride with someone before, it’s going to be a unique arrangement,” continued the 2-time champion. “But, if Jason and I could rough each other up on the racetrack and still be friends at the end of the day, I’m sure we’ll be able to get through being teammates”
The car will be prepared at Parker’s JP Motorsports facility in Port Elgin, with members from JP Motorsports and McTeer’s M3 Motorsports outfit providing trackside support.
“We’re essentially taking two teams and combining them into one,” explained Parker. “It’s a pretty incredible pairing. Scott’s car, my shop and all our guys putting their heads together to make us faster on race day”
“Between the two of us, we’ve won four of the last five Sauble championships. I would love nothing more than to keep our streak going. There’s going to be some stout competition, but I think we have a pretty good chance”
Parker will compete in six points paying events at Sauble this season, with McTeer strapping in for three races as part of the team’s title push.
The pair will also work together when following the upstart APC United Late Model Series, with McTeer filing the role of Car Chief for Parker’s 2015 tour.
“The same week that I announced I was running the tour fulltime in 2015, Scott put the word out that he was looking to take a step back for a season,” said Parker. “As soon as I heard that, I reached out to him to let him know I wanted him as a part of my program”
“Fortunately, Scott’s crazy enough to want to spend an entire summer with me, so he’ll be helping call the shots for my Pro Late Model team when we go out on tour this year”
The team will make their 2015 debut at Sauble Speedway on May 16th.
