NEW HAMBURG, ON- 13-year old Mini Stock sophomore Jake Watson will return to Flamboro Speedway for a one night engagement on August 16th, as he looks to clash with the Flamboro regulars in search of his first career feature win.
The Sunset Speedway regular will utilize an ‘off night’ on the Sunset schedule to return to Flamboro, fresh off of a 12th place finish on August 9th.
“Flamboro is where I got my start, so it’s always special any time I get the change to come back and race there”, explains Watson. “My dad raced Mini Stock there from the time I was a little kid. Then, I started out racing with the Waterloo Regional Kart Club at Flamboro, before starting out in the Mini Stock division myself”
“I love racing at Sunset, but it’s 2-hours from home and a lot of my friends and family don’t get the chance to see me race”, continues the well-spoken 13-year old. “I hope I’m able to show them just how much I’ve developed this season”
‘The Derringer’ has turned heads throughout the 2014 campaign, displaying a willingness to learn and an brand of composure that well exceeds his 13-years.
“Every time we load up, I leave the speedway feeling like I learned something”, says Watson. “There’s so much competition in this division, and everyone is so even, that you’re surrounded by talent in every lap that you turn. There are a tonne of drivers in this division that I’ve learned from, just by watching them race”
The New Hamburg, ON driver will have additional help in the pit area upon his return to Flamboro, as he has reached out to current Sunset Speedway point leader Brandon McFerran for his assistance on August 16th.
“Brandon’s one of the best in the province in a Mini Stock right now”, offers Watson, “it’s going to be a lot of fun to work with him. He’s won a lot of races at Flamboro, so I’m hoping his experience can help me find my way to the front”
“I think Jake has as much natural talent as anyone”, says McFerran. “He has an unreal amount of potential. I wasn’t nearly as fearless at that age. I really look forward to seeing what we can do together this Saturday”
