NEW HAMBURG, ON- Twelve–year old sophomore Jake Watson continues to turn heads in Sunset Speedway’s talent-heavy Mini Stock division, registering a 10th place finish in a full field of 28 cars on June 7th.
“Any time we can come out and get a top-10 in this field is an awesome night”, said Jake post-race. “These drivers are so talented, you have to work for every position you make here”
Currently the youngest driver on the Sunset roster, the third-generation star has improved with each start at Sunset Speedway, racing alongside Spira Fire Protection teammates Billy Schwartzenburg and Samantha Shaw.
“Having the three of us competing at Sunset on a regular basis is helping more than I ever thought it would”, said the middle-school student. “Billy and Sam have awesome programs, and are in the mix every night, which benefits all of us in the long run. As soon as one of our cars hits on something in the setup, it gives the other two the chance to try something new”
As the Sunset season works towards its second Quarter, ‘The Derringer’ has finished outside of the top-15 in only one appearance thus far.
“Consistent finishes were what Dad and I were looking for when we decided to run Sunset”, explained Watson, “we’ve been able to settle into a groove, which is awesome”
“Dad’s been able to give me an awesome car every single night, his setups have been bang on, and I feel more comfortable every week”, continued Watson. “We love Sunset, our whole team does. We’d love nothing more than to finish the season here and work towards a top-5 finish in points. We just need to find a few more marketing partners and we’ll be able to race here all summer”
Jake will be back behind the wheel this Saturday, June 14th at Sunset Speedway for another 25-lap Mini Stock event. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca
Jake Watson is proud to represent Spira Fire Protection, HYPE Energy Drinks, Fast Eddie Racewear, Process Group, Race2Way.ca, Expressway Ford, Cloverleaf Farms, Stewart’s Equipment, Artik Ice, WIX Filters, Gunk, Chetty’s Hot Sauce, Cambridge Source For Sports, Oktane Productions and Lucas Oil.
