WATERLOO, ON- With two events in as many days scheduled for Sunset Speedway, Mini Stock up-and-comer Jake Watson will look to employ a conservative strategy to make it through both 25-lap events.
“I think patience and composure are going to go a long way this weekend,” explains the well-spoken 14-year old. “It’s been a theme the last couple years during these doubleshot weekends where you get guys that come out overaggressive on Saturday night and completely kill their chances to race Sunday”
“We’re not a big budget team by any stretch of the imagination. It’s understood in our pit area that if we wreck on Saturday night, there’s a really good chance that we don’t race Sunday. That’s definitely something I’ll have in the back of my head this weekend”
‘The Derringer’ will enter the pair of events 9th in Sunset Speedway Mini Stock points, and is looking to follow-up a top-10 finish at Sauble Speedway last Saturday with a return to the front of the field this weekend.
“Our car has been getting better every weekend,” says the third-generation competitor. “We’ve really turned a corner this season and we’re getting closer and closer to where we want this setup. Racing back-to-back is going to give us an awesome chance to get this car tuned in this weekend”
“Sunset is the perfect place for this division. I can’t picture our team ever wanting to race anywhere else. The track itself gives you a lot of room to move, it’s not tough to pass guys and you don’t have to completely destroy your car just to race for position”
“On top of that, the competition is second to none,” continues Watson. “Personally, that’s the part that I enjoy the most. These teams are the best at what they do. We haven’t won a feature yet – but I can guarantee that when we do, and we finally find a way to beat these guys, it’ll mean something.”
‘The Derringer’s 2015 season would not be possible without Spira Fire Protection, Race2way.ca, Hype Energy Drink, London Recreational Racing, GUNK, Wix Filters, The Landing Strip of Toronto, Academy Construction, TSS Top Shops, SMG Motorsports, OKTANE Productions, Fast Eddie Racewear, Glencoe Automotive, For Your Eyes Only, Protein2O, AquaHydrate, Stewarts Root Beer, AR Bodies, Falken Tire, Artik Ice, Dominion Sure Seal, Chetty’s Hot Sauce, Cloverleaf Farms, Lucas Oil and Expressway Ford.
