INNISFIL, ON- Jake Watson employed a pre-race setup change to register a 13th place finish in Sunset’s 25-lap Mini Stock event on June 14th.
The 12-year old sophomore battled through setup issues in practice and qualifying, before making adjustments to his Spira Fire Protection No. 88 moments before the feature event.
“We had a tough time getting a handle on our car during the day”, said Watson. “We’ve been trying a few new combinations to try and find some better bite off the corner, and it set us back a bit today”
“Just as the feature lineup was being put on the board, Dad and I decided to have a chat with [teammate] Sam Shaw’s father Randy, to see what they’re running in their car”, Watson continued. “They were able to point us in the right direction, and we ended up changing up almost our entire suspension setup”
‘The Derringer’ came up to speed with the new setup almost instantaneously, as he battled just outside of the top-10 for the entirety of the 25-lap feature.
“Every week we’re adding more to our setup binder”, explained the well-spoken sophomore. “When we unloaded on opening night, we really didn’t have many notes to go off of. The first month and a half has been a huge learning experience, and I’m more comfortable now with this car than I’ve ever been”
After 7 straight weeks of competition, the team will enjoy a well-earned 2 week reprieve, before returning to action on July 5th at Sunset Speedway.
