(January 25, 2020)- Jade Franklin is set to chase a championship, as he will be driving the No. 3 Eldon Wallis-owned Spencer-Walt Motorsports entry full-time at Sunset Speedway in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Limited Late Model division.
“I think this season will be a lot of fun,” Franklin said. “Going into 2020, I think we will have a good shot at running up front. After running at Sunset full time in the past and running a couple seasons in the APC (Series), I have some experience with the track and driving a late model, so I think if we put everything we know into this year we will be great!”
Ready to embark on the 13-week schedule, Franklin has his goals focused on winning the Rookie of the Year Award.
“I want to win races and battle up front every week and at the end, battle for that championship spot because with the car, the crew, and everyone’s support, I know we can do it,” he commented. “We just can’t give up.”
He knows it will prove to be a challenge each week, as the current caliber of Sunset appears to be top-shelf with several past champions sprinkled through the field.
“I think the competition is tough at Sunset and after hearing that some more people are coming out, it sound like the competition will be even better,” he said.
Though with entering his third season behind the wheel of a late model, having the experience surrounding him in Eldon Wallis and Rick Spencer-Walt is something the young driver feels will be beneficial.
“It’s huge to have all the support I am getting,” he said. “After spotting last year for Rick at Sunset, I learned so much that made me a better driver. After listening and taking everything in, it was a night and day difference when we went to Sauble for the APC Series. We had speed and I was able to run up front. And I can’t wait to learn more this year and over the off season!”
This past season, Franklin ran a partial APC Series schedule, running in the top-10 throughout the season, highlighted by a season-best 11th at Sauble Speedway. Previously, he competed in the Super Stock class weekly at Sunset Speedway.
“Last season, we never did as many APC events as we wanted but we are always looking for marketing partners so we can race,” he commented. “But overall last season was great. We were fast at every APC event we attended and working with the Spencer-Walt Motorsports team was great, with all the knowledge I was able to gain and Rick picking up the championship.”
Franklin’s marketing partners and the car will be unveiled closer to the season. Interested sponsors are encouraged to the contact the team through their Facebook page for more information.
