In the December 20th edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we offer a sneak peek at Ltd. Late Model stud Thayne Hallyburton’s ride for the upcoming season and detail Shawn McGlynn’s newly announced 2014 plans. We also chat with Thunder Car legend Todd Davenport and revisit a wildly popular episode of Bench Racing featuring Lane Zardo, Davey Terry and Mack Deman.
Limited Late Model standout Thayne Hallyburton has sent along this photo of his brand new 2013 Port City Racing chassis. ‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ has outlined an ambitious 2014 schedule, campaigning fulltime at Sunset Speedway, in addition to a touring schedule that will take his family-run team across the province, targeting events like the 4th annual Garry Reynolds Memorial at his former hometrack of Barrie and the Chase for the Colours at Peterborough Speedway in mid-summer. The Port City by Baker chassis will receive complete setup and at-track support from Kyle Baker of Baker Performance Parts. Sponsorship from Hillsdale Service Centre and Shelburne Memorials has already been finalized, and the team is continually pursuing additional marketing support for their upcoming season. Hallyburton is riding a wave of momentum, after enjoying a breakout 2013 campaign that included 8 feature wins at Barrie Speedway, and hopes to jump right into championship contention amongst Sunset’s perennially talented field. Fans can follow Thayne’s off-season prep via his @THallyburton Twitter handle.
Sauble Speedway has announced via its official Facebook page that Kitchener, ON veteran Shawn McGlynn (above, by Thompson Photography) will compete in their Limited Late Model division in 2014. McGlynn is a 3-time Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series champion, earning titles in 2008, 2012 and 2013. McGlynn has yet to comment on wether his Sauble commitments will keep him from fielding a car with the LOSC tour in 2014.
Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to chat with multi-time Sauble Speedway champion – and former Autumn Colours Classic winner – Todd Davenport (above, by Thompson Photography). The Allenford, ON driver spoke candidly about his newly acquired McColl Racing Enterprises-built Metric chassis, his relationship with the staff at MRE, his up and down 2013 season and a possible hint at what he has planned for 2014.
