In this edition of the Inside Track Motorsport News Ontario Short Track Update, Spencer Lewis details the 2013 plans and/or early season results for several racers, including Marc and Jaxson Jacobs, Matt Pritiko, AJ Emms, Willie Reyns, Robbie Sikes and Cole Powell.
Following up on an impressive performance at the 47th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in February at New Smyrna Speedway, brothers Marc (#8 above) and Jaxson Jacobs (main image #14) have confirmed they will compete fulltime with the lauded JEGS/CRA All Star Tour.
The Midwest-based Pro Late Model tour has boasted a roster that, in the past, has included short track mainstays Erik Jones, Chase Elliott, Daniel Hemric and Kyle Benjamin. Both Jacobs brothers will be in competition when the tour opens its 2013 season at Springport Motor Speedway in Michigan, 362kms from the team’s London, ON shop.
2012 Delaware Speedway Late Model championship runner-up Matt Pritiko (above) will return to fulltime competition at the London, ON oval in 2013. The former KONI Challenge Series standout is coming off of an impressive 2012 season that saw him land just 25 points shy of eventual track champion Mark Watson.
Pritiko also plans on attending Sauble Speedway’s Beat the Heat 150 event as well as Peterborough Speedway’s famed Autumn Colours Classic. The 24-year old welcomes Global Warranty back as a primary sponsor, with additional support from Toyota-Town.com, NAPA Certified Body Shops, Burwell Auto Body, HYPE Energy Drink, SPY Sunglasses, AQUAhydrate and 97.5 Virgin Radio of London. Hurricane Midgets frontrunner AJ Emms will return to action in 2013 with a brand new Mike Westwood-built Stryker Chassis. The Brechin, ON-based driver will run a full slate with Hurricane Midgets, and plans to make his Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midgets debut in a brand new Stryker Chassis midway through the season.
In addition to his Midget commitments, Emms has stated that he will also see action in a Pro-4 Modified throughout the summer as well. Emms’ 2013 sponsorship team includes Mike Westwood Fabrication, Stryker Chassis, Klotz Canada, TXM Race Engines and NGK Spark Plugs.
Former Barrie Speedway Pure Stock regular ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Sikes will race fulltime in the speedway’s perennially-competitive Thunder Car division in 2013. Sikes, a second-generation competitor, purchased a chassis from former Barrie front-runner Brian Murray at the closing of the 2012 season.
The Orillia, ON driver will look to compete alongside fellow Pure Stock graduate Bryan Penny for Rookie of the Year honors. Sikes’ Hannahman’s Roadside BBQ, Dwinnells Moving & Storage, Sharpe Painting, Bromley Automotive, RS Construction ride will make its debut on May 4th when Barrie opens its 2013 season.
Two-time Kawartha Speedway Thunder Car champion ‘Fast Time’ Willie Reyns (above) managed a 7th place finish in Saturday’s running of the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals event at Rockingham Speedway. Reyns, a Kimmel Street Stock veteran, ran as high as second in the ‘Rumble at the Rock 100’, but was collected in a mid-race incident before battling back to a top-10 finish with a wounded race car. The Port Hope, ON veteran will compete with the Street Stock Nationals again at Iowa Speedway on July 12th.
Mount Brydges, ON driver Cole Powell returned to action with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Sunday in Thompson, CT. Following up an impressive showing in February’s ‘Battle at the Beach’ event, Powell logged a 19th place finish in the 150-lap ‘Icebreaker 150’. Powell’s family-run team will be back on tour with the mod-squad at Stafford Motor Speedway for the ‘Spring Sizzler’ on April 28th.
