PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO… With the conclusion of the Seaway Mall Car Show, the focus of the Humberstone Speedway is getting ready for the 2013 campaign to get underway. Practice will take place on Wednesday April 17th starting at 6:00pm and on Sunday April 28th starting at 2:00pm.
On eight occasions throughout the 2013 season including the All Canadian Championships, the DIRTcar Modifieds will headline the racing program at the historic Port Colborne, Ontario oval. “It’s great to see tracks like Humberstone Speedway continue to develop their DIRTcar relationship as they expand their weekly racing program. The fans will truly benefit as the region’s race teams will have more opportunities to compete,” stated Joe Skotnicki, Director of Series and Sanctioning for DIRTcar Northeast.
“These additions will be especially helpful for some of our western New York racers and Canadian racers, giving them a chance to race in weekly events at a track close to home” Skotnicki continued. Modified drivers can choose whether or not to race their Big Blocks or their Small Blocks. The drivers can also earn their home track points at Humberstone and use them towards the overall Mr. DIRT Title.
The eight dates for the Modifieds at Humberstone are May 26th, June 9th and 23rd, July 7th and 21st and August 4th, 18th and 25th. The history of the Modifieds at Humberstone go back to when the track first started back in 1960 with the names like Harold Sonnenberg, Jeno Begolo, Chuck Boos, Stan Friesen, Ivan Little, Brian Stevens, Jim Begolo, and Pete Bicknell have all claimed speedway titles over the years. Bicknell has 10 titles to his credit. Most recently, Mike Bowman was the last Modified track champion in 2010.
Humberstone’s season opener will get the green flag on Sunday May 5th starting promptly at 6:00pm. Another highlight on the schedule is the appearance and tour stop number one of the Go Nuclear Late Model Tour on Sunday May 19th. “We are proud and honored to be the first race on the schedule for this new and upcoming series,” says Director of Public and Media Relations Steven Petty.
The John Puhl Memorial featuring the Go Nuclear Late Models will also feature the Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman, JC Auto Street Stocks, Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks, Trackside Decals Mini Stocks and the Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stocks and will conclude with Victoria Day Fireworks. You can like the Go Nuclear Late Models on Facebook and follow the series on Twitter @GoNuclearSeries.
Humberstone management is reminding fans about the special offer that the track posted on its Twitter. If fans attend 14 races this season, the 15th race is free. “We are saying thank you to our fans that support us each race week” says Director of Race Night Operations Clinton Geoffrey. The 2013 season lid-lifter will take place on Sunday May 5th starting at 6:00pm and admission prices are just five dollars.
