@NewHumberstone •PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO (July 17, 2016) Port Colborne Ontario’s Chad Chevalier was victorious in the feature event for the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman on Pinty’s Delicious Foods Night at the Humberstone Speedway on Sunday evening. Dennis Lunger Jr from Albion, Pennsylvania would pick up his fourth Pinty’s Delicious Foods RUSH Late Models victory of the season. Rob Murray from St. Catharines, Ontario won his fourth JC Auto Street Stocks feature of the season. Dillon Llord from St. Catharines, Ontario earned his fifth Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks feature of the season. Evan Curtis form Port Colborne, Ontario won his third Cosco Haulage Mini Stock feature of the season. Nick Masi won the Eve of Destruction Enduro qualifier and is now qualified for the 2016 edition of the Eve of Destruction, set for Sunday September 25.
Darrel Farraway and Jeff Armstrong led the field of PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag and Brad Rouse spun in turn one to bring out the caution after having contact with Luke Carleton. Armstrong would take the lead into turn one once the field hit the start finish line with Joey Mastrioanni taking over second from Farraway. Chad Chevalier would move into second on lap eight and he would begin to catch race leader Armstrong. Armstrong would continue to show the way at the halfway mark. Chad Chevalier would catch Armstrong while working in lap traffic throughout would pass Armstrong for the lead with three laps remaining.
John McIntire and Rob Pietz shared the front row for the Pinty’s RUSH Late Models feature event and it was McIntire showing the way early. Dennis Lunger Jr would take the lead away from McIntire on lap two and would start to pull away from the field. Travis Martineau and Colton Ledingham made contact with Martineau spinning in turn four to bring out the races first caution on lap six. Lunger would take off into the sunset out front off the restart as Tim Gillespie and Rob Pietz would battle for second place for several circuits. Wyatt VanWart brought the red flag out on lap 12 after having a fire underneath the hood of his 04 entry. On the restart, Lunger and Pietz would battle for the lead with Lunger pulling away with four laps remaining. Lunger would drive away to collect his fourth win of the season.
Dave Bailey would take off from the pole in the feature event for the JC Auto Street Stocks. Andrew Reece and Mike Miller made contact in turn one to bring out the races first caution on lap one. On the restart it was Bailey showing the way with Rob Murray, Bill Bleich Jr and Jason Fontaine racing in the top four. The caution would come back out for Vince Fargnoli who spun in turn four. On the restart, Bailey, Bleich and Murray went three wide but Bailey would be able to keep his advance over the field. Bleich would make a run underneath Bailey for the lead on lap 10 but Bailey would keep the lead. Rob Murray would take over second on lap 12. Murray would catch Bailey for the lead and Murray would complete the pass with three laps to go. Murray would hold off Bailey to score the win, his fourth of the season.
Kyle Tomaski and Rick Book brought the field of Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks with Tomaski showing the way. Andy Imbeault would move into second with Rick Book running in third. Book would take over second on lap five and would begin to reel in Tomaski with Dillon Llord running in third. Llord would move into the runner up position just two laps later Llord would catch Tomaski with five laps remaining to take over the lead as Danny Wurster would take over second. Llord would hold off Wurster to collect the win, his fifth of the season.
Evan Curtis and Garnet Wilson led the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks to the green flag with Wilson jumping into the lead. Kyle Haynes and Evan Curtis battled for second with Curtis holding off Haynes’s advances. Curtis would catch Wilson for the lead on lap eight but Wilson would hold him off. Kyle Miller would come to a stop to bring out the races first caution with just five laps remaining. Miller would drive to the pits under his own power. On the restart, Curtis would take over the lead as Rob Goulding would catch the lead duo for the lead with four to go. Wilson would catch Curtis and would go to the outside to regain the lead with two to go. A three car battle for the lead was brought down to the checkers as Evan Curtis would win by a half a foot over Garnet Wilson and Rob Goulding.
NEWS AND NOTES: Fans had the opportunity for a meet and greet with their favorite drivers during the popular autograph session.
A total of 101 racecars signed in pitside for the racing action.
Young fan Blake was Lucas Oil/Leslie Motorsports Jr Fan Members of the Week. Blake received a prize pack from Lucas Oil and Leslie Motorsports. As part of being the Jr. Fan Member of the week, Blake said “the most famous words in Motorsports” as well as got the chance to ride in the Pace Car and get picture taken with each of the feature winners in Epic Racewear Victory Lane! The Jr Fan of the Week can pick up their photos the following week courtesy of Soft Touch Images.
Next Sunday, the Go Nuclear Late Model Tour will headline the racing program that will be presented by Rankin Construction. The Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks and Mini Stocks will also be on the card. Gates will open at 4:30 with race time set for 6:30pm.
