PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO… (August 13, 2017) Scotland, Ontario’s Dylan Westbrook won the A-Main for the Southern Ontario Sprints on Zanchin Truck and Trailer Night at the Humberstone Speedway on Sunday evening. Cody McPherson from St. Catharines, Ontario won his second PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman feature of the season. Paul Grigsby from Springville, NY won his first main event of the season for the Maple Leaf Foods RUSH Late Models. Dave Bailey from Hagersville, Ontario won his fourth JC Auto Street Stocks feature of the season. Olivier Larocque from Port Colborne, Ontario scored his second win of the season in the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks. Danny Wurster from Niagara Falls, Ontario picked up his second win of the season for the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks.
Dylan Westbrook and Chris Jones brought the field of Southern Ontario Sprints to the green flag for their 25 lap A-Main with Westbrook taking off into the lead as Jones, Shawn Sliter, Ryan Turner and Jim Huppunen racing in the top five. Turner would take third away from Sliter and then passed Jones to take second away on lap two, using the outside of the speedway. With Westbrook firmly in control of the field early on, Jim Porter spun, in turn, two and tilted over on his side on lap seven to bring the red flag out. Porter was able to rejoin the field after his roll over. On the lap seven restart, Westbrook would take off with Ryan Turner running in second place, with Brother Cory moving into third after passing outside pole sitter Chris Jones on lap nine. The leader would hit lap traffic at the halfway mark, as the Turner brothers battled for second place. Cory Turner would take second away from Ryan on lap 15, and went after Westbrook. Turner would catch Westbrook while in heavy lap traffic with seven laps remaining. Westbrook would pull away from the Turners to win his fifth straight A-Main, his eighth SOS feature victory of the season. Cory Turner and Ryan Turner would complete the top three.
Darrell Farraway and Cody McPherson led the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their 25 lap feature event with McPherson quickly jumping into the lead. McPherson, Farraway and Chad Chevalier raced in the top three early on as the top three pulled away from Emily Puchalski, Jay Mallory, and Brad Rouse. Dylan Davidson would bring out the races first caution on lap nine, after losing his left front tire. Brad Rouse was making a hard charge through the field and was up in fourth place after going three wide with Emily Puchalski and Jay Mallory off the restart. Rouse would continue his march towards the front after passing Chevalier on lap 12. McPherson continued to lead at halfway over Farraway and Rouse. McPherson would drive away from Farraway and Rouse to score his second win of the season.
Paul Grigsby and Tim Gillespie shared the front row for the feature event for the Maple Leaf Foods RUSH Late Models with Grigsby taking the lead as Gillespie battled with Jeff Dayman for second. Chad Homan worked his way through the field as he took third place from Sam Pennacchio on a lap six restart. Jeff Dayman drove to the outside of Grigsby to take the lead on lap nine as Pennacchio regained the third spot from Homan. Grigsby would regain the lead on lap 11. Homan would take second away from Dayman with six laps remaining and would begin to reel in race leader Grigsby. Rob Pietz started dead last on the field and worked into the top five by the races halfway mark. Homan would catch Grigsby with two laps remaining but it was Grigsby getting the win, his first at Humberstone since September of 2015.
Kyle Pelrine and Dave Bailey brought the field of JC Auto Street Stocks to the green flag for their 20 lap feature event with Bailey using the outside to take the lead on the initial lap. Jason Fontaine would take second away from Pelrine as Billy Bleich Jr worked into the top three. Bailey would increase the lead at the halfway mark as Fontaine and Bleich battled for second place. Bleich would take second away from Fontaine on lap 13. Bailey would drive away from the field to score his fourth victory of the season at Humberstone.
Olivier Larocque and Jason Coutu led the field of Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks to the green flag for their 15 lap feature with Larocque showing the way over Coutu and Jonathan Ayrton. Evan Curtis worked his way into fourth and then moved into third on lap two. Curtis would continue to work his way through the field as he battled with Jason Coutu to take over second. Jay Moulton spun in turn three to bring out the races first caution on lap five. On the restart, Larocque and Coutu would battle for the lead as Ayrton would regain third from Curtis. Coutu would take the lead from Larocque at the halfway mark, as Curtis, Ayrton and Cole Hardy raced in the top five. Larocque would regain the lead on lap nine after a nice move on the back stretch. Curtis and Larocque would make contact coming to the flag with Curtis crossing the line first. Larocque would be officially declared the winner after Curtis was sent to the rear of the field for rough riding. Larocque’s win was his second of the season.
Mitch Dumont and Dylan Llord brought the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks to the green flag for their feature event with Danny Wurster taking the lead at the end of lap one. After an early race caution, Craig Vlasic battled with Danny Wurster for the lead with Wurster keeping the top spot in the races’ early stages. Terry Ronning battled with Mitch Dumont and Dylan Llord for third place. Wurster and Vlasic would pull away from the field at the halfway mark. Vlasic would try everything he could to get to Wurster but it was Wurster scoring the win, his second of the season.
NEWS AND NOTES: 88 cars signed in pitside. With his hot lap time of 13.434 seconds, Dylan Westbrook broke the previous 360 Sprint Car track record of 13.507 seconds held by Bobby Breen, set back in 2009.
Racing will return to Humberstone on Sunday, August 20th as Port Colborne Home Hardware presents a full card of racing plus the second appearance of the season by the Mod Lites and Round 4 of the Cooper Motorsports Minivans of Mayhem. Gates will swing open at 4:30 pm in the pits, 5:00 pm for the grandstands with race time is at 6:30 pm.
