MUSKOKA, ON- Former TQ Can-Am Midget champion Daniel Bois will make his OSCAAR Modified Tour debut at the 2014 Peterborough Speedway Autumn Colours Classic, thanks to a recently announced partnership with Gowan Racing’s Shane Gowan.
“This is a dream come true for me, I’ve wanted to race the Autumn Colours Classic for as long as I can remember”, explains Bois from his home base in Muskoka, ON. “Our family cottage is less than 15 minutes away from Peterborough Speedway. I’ve been to every single ‘Classic’ and have dreamt of racing in that event since I was a little kid”
‘The Bull’ has long considered the jump to OSCAAR competition, and was able to acclimate himself to the much heavier machine perfectly in a recent test session.
“I’ve had my eye on the Modifieds from the moment OSCAAR sanctioned them”, says Bois. “Shane brought me out for a test session at Flamboro last week, and I couldn’t believe how much fun these cars are to drive”
“The test was a huge shot of confidence for us”, continues Bois. “Within a few laps, we were running right within the times that we feel will make us competitive. I was able to get a feel for the car right away, which makes a huge difference when you’re adjusting to this type of learning curve”
For team owner Shane Gowan, a relationship with Bois is something he’s had in mind for quite some time. When an opportunity arose to start his own OSCAAR Modified team, Daniel was one of the first drivers he had in mind.
“I’ve known Daniel for a long time, and he’s a special kind of talent”, says the Super Late Model veteran. “My wife and I snatched at the chance to put this Modified team together. The style of racing they provide is top notch, and we think that we can have a lot of fun with this”
“Giving an opportunity to Daniel is something I’m happy to do”, continues Gowan. “You just don’t come across this type of driver every day. He’s able to drive Porsches and Lamborghinis on road courses during the week, and then hop in a TQ Midget on the weekend. I’ve never seen Daniel in a race in which he hasn’t impressed me”
Though Bois has yet to compete in a Modified for the first time, the personable open-wheel standout is already looking ahead to the 2015 season.
“This is the kind of partnership every racer dreams of”, says the former TQ Can-Am Midget champion. “Shane is an incredible guy, and I hope we can build on something together as a team. He’s never won an Autumn Colours Classic before as a driver, and I would be honoured to come out and get him a win as a car owner”
“If we can have a strong debut in this car, then I think the sky is the limit in terms of what we could do together next season”
Daniel Bois’ OSCAAR Modified debut will be made possible thanks to Gowan Racing, Thermal Technology Services Limited and London Recreational Racing.
