BURLINGTON, ONTARIO (January 26, 2015)– Glen Vardy is going to be one busy racer this season. The Burlington Ontario resident, who has competed in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series for the past five years, is planning to ramp up his racing for the 2015 season.
Not only does Vardy plan to continue racing his Top Dragster in the series, he plans on getting into the ultimate in drag racing, a Top Fuel Dragster.
And if that’s not enough, he will be heading up an effort for girl friend Colleen Cook to compete in the Pro Bike & Sled Series, and spend time with his son Gavin who will enter his rookie year in Junior Dragster.
Racing his big-block supercharged Top Dragster, Vardy placed fourth in points in 2014 with a win during the Series’ opening round at Grand Bend. The car, which is crew-chiefed by Steve Vardy and maintained by Shane Cuthbertson, Brian Vardy and Jackie Hill, is capable of running the quarter mile in about six seconds at speeds of 230 mph.
Vardy plans to get into the Leverich Racing Top Fuel Dragster this year, and said he is hoping to get his Top Fuel licence with the Michigan-based team in the spring.
In the PBSS, a companion series to the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, Vardy is preparing a Yamaha Viper Top Sled entry for Colleen Cook to compete.
“I will be upgrading the skis, track, and making other performance modifications,” he said of the Yamaha. “It will be highly modified with a Volvo turbo and capable of making 400 horsepower.
He continued. “I will be starting her out in the high nines and stepping it up to 8.50’s at around 155-160 mph.”
And along with his efforts with the two dragsters and the Cook Pro Sled, Vardy will be showing his son the sport this year as eight-year old Gavin steps into a Junior Dragster for his rookie year.
Vardy said he realizes he will be busy, but is looking forward to the upcoming season, which starts May 15-17 for Mayhem at the Bend at the Grand Bend Motorplex.
“Oh yes I am going to be busy, but it’s going to be worth it,” he said. “My goal is to win in two classes in one weekend. And a championship.”
