@KDSpeedway @GaryKlutt HALTON HILLS, ON- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie of the Year contender Gary Klutt will look to close out his inaugural fulltime campaign on a high note this weekend, as his CTL Corp-backed No. 59 heads to Kawartha Speedway for the 11th and final round of the cross-country series’ 2015 season.
“I’m really looking forward to getting to Kawartha,” offers Klutt when asked about Saturday’s Pinty’s 250. “When we first started this season, oval racing felt completely foreign to me, but after a full schedule with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, I’d like to think that we’ve adapted to it quite well”
“When you look at the numbers, we’ve had more consistent finishes on ovals than we have on the road courses, which is a surprise even to us,” adds Klutt with a laugh. “When it’s all said and done, I think we’ve done a great job showing everyone that I’m more than just a ‘road course guy’”
After a strong start to his freshman season, Klutt has worked through a pair of rough outings at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in recent starts. However, despite the adversity, Klutt insists the 2015 season has been a blessing.
“There are moments this season that I certainly wish had played out a little differently. But, when I look back on 2015 and see my first career series win, and seven top-10s in ten starts, how can I be mad?,” asks the charismatic up-and-comer. “My sponsors have given me an incredible opportunity this season, and [Crew Chief] John Fletcher has consistently given me some fantastic race cars. It’s been an honour to follow the entire schedule this year, and now it’s all about finishing on a high note at Kawartha”
The second-generation star hopes for a strong finish to the 2015 season, and knows that an impressive performance could have ramifications that stretch all the way to 2016.
“Kawartha’s a really technical track, so we’re going to need to be on our toes all day long,” explains Klutt. “There’s nowhere to hide there. With two solid racing grooves, if your car isn’t working, it’s like having a one-way ticket to the back of the field. We had a fantastic test session there last week that’s left me full of confidence heading into Saturday”
“Starting the season with a win was like a dream come true, and the exact can be said for finishing it the same way,” continues the rising star. “We haven’t won on an oval yet, but we’ve come incredibly close a couple times this year. I would love more than anything to knock that off my bucket list and to give my team and my marketing partners something to get excited about heading into 2016.”
